Painting over Molotow chrome?

I do it all the time for tail lights, turn signals etc. Works very well. Haven't tried it with anything bigger than a tail light though.

You’ve used the Tamiya Clear Red and Clear Amber with no problems? I ask because they’re both acrylic.

While that is true (Tamiya is an acrylic lacquer), I'm really surprised.  Why? Because both Molotow and Tamiya paints seem to use alcohol as solvent.  I would have expected that Applying Tamiya over Molotow would slightly dull the chrome-like shine.

No problems at all.  The Tamiya clear colors over the Molotow really look transparent .  Be sure to let the Molotow dry completely before coating.

Has anyone ever painted over the Molotow chrome? I’m wanting to paint Tamiya clear amber over it.

You appear have all the components to do the testing yourself. Why not experiment on some sprue and let us know how it worked out.

Note that those colors are available from Tamiya BOTH as acrylics and enamel paints. Whereas the acrylics are sold in the usual round jars with 10 (mini) or 23 (large) ml contents, the enamel ones are those in the "square" 10 ml jars. As with many other paints, the acrylics dry much faster but the enamels give a more realistic finish. Personally, I would always prefer to use those clear colors on BMF rather than Molotov, but if Molotov is the choice, I gather using the enamel clear is the better move.
