‘69 Ford Mustang Mach 1 428CJ

This is my new(ish) entry for the 50 Years of Mach 1 community build. It was part of a learning experience, but I don’t think any of the parts have been modified.

Anyways, I’m going to build this one like my 1:1 scale dream car. It’ll be Acapulco Blue with Gold and White decals. I found some rims in the parts bin from a ‘68 Shelby that I think will look good on it.

The '69 Mach 1 is one of my favorite muscle cars, so I look forward to watching the progress you make on your build.

It looks like you're using the Revell kit for this project.  If you haven't built it before, you'll find that it's fairly well done with the exception of the front end, which was so "off" it kept quite a few of us from bothering to finish our builds.

Fortunately, there is (was?) a resin front end assembly that came out a number of years ago that, while not perfect, is a big improvement.  If you're interested, I'm sure these guys could help you find one.

A 1969 428 CJ sounds like an interesting and intriguing project! I`ll be following this one. BTW is that the AMT `69 Mustang kit you are build from?

Thanks for the support! This is the old Revell 1989 Hot Rod release.

Yep, this is the Revell kit. Thank you for the heads-up about the front end - I’ll have to look into the resin replacement.

You also experiment to see if the 69 Boss 302 front end fits.

Good idea, Rex! Now to find a spare Boss 302 body to experiment on...LOL.

That's why I never finished mine.

Good luck with your project. B)

I've been test fitting some parts from a '69 Boss 302 - the corrected front end will fit with little to no modification needed, I’m going to modify the hood from the Boss 302 since the Mach 1 hood didn’t line up right, and I think I'm going to add a little nod to the Boss by using the rear window louvers.

Got the engine partially assembled and ready for primer. I'm going to attach the oil pan after I paint the transmission.

I also got the carburetor assembled. The carb base from the Mach 1 broke, so I used the full carb from the Boss 302.

  • 2 weeks later...

Got the chassis, seats, dash, and interior bucket painted flat black. I spray painted the exhaust system with Krylon ColorMaster Brilliant Aluminum. I had the engine painted, but wasn't happy with how it turned out (the humidity was a little too high to paint outside. I found that out after I brought the engine back in...).
