Good Clear Coat for Molotow Chrome - Found

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hi guys,

I thought I would share with you, the E7 paints chrome sealer which I have brush painted over Molotow Chrome. See photos below. If you look closely, you can just faintly see a horizontal line (just above my hand) in the photo. The lower half is clear coated with E7 chrome sealer and the top half is not clear coated. I would say it has retained 90% of the reflection. It actually got clearer as it dried. Started out a little milky. The stuff is relatively cheap to buy on ebay, around $8US for 20ml.

Regards

Mike

Good to know there's something out there that you can use on Molotow liquid chrome without dulling the finish, thank you for sharing.

Yep the chrome does not rub off with the sealer laid down :). To be honest it looks much better than in the photo.

That sounds like just the ticket and with free international shipping it's worth trying out for sure. I've just ordered some.

Looks good.

Spaz Stix Ultimate Chrome as well as the Clear coat, works well too.

Sold. Will report back when it gets here next month.

Mike, a few questions:

  • How long did it take to dry?
  • Did you airbrush the Molotow on the spoon?
  • And how long did you let the Molotow cure before you clear-coated it?

Thanks for the tip!

Gidday,

I left the sealer overnight to dry before I touched it. Yes the spoon was airbrushed, and the spoon had been painted chrome a long time ago so unsure how long you have to wait till sealer application.

You can also get it from USA Gundam Store, in Daytona Beach, for $5.49.

Yes thanks for the info. I tried Spaz-Stick Ultimate Clear over Molotow but it seems to loose 15-20% of the chrome look.

I see E7-Color has a paint called "Shine Chrome" - anyone tried that? Is that what the sealer was intended for?

The order arrived today. I had a piece of scrap plastic that had some dried Molotow from starting the pen; a few days ago I brushed some SpazStix Aqua Clear over part of it and today brushed the S-02 on the other part. The S-02 does seem to work a bit better.

The store's site lists it as currently sold out.
