Race Car Seat Belts / Harness?

Recommended Posts

What do you guys do for seat belts and racing harnesses?  Particularly 1980's forward?   Thanks!

I like to use lead foil from a wine bottle for the belts. Detail Master makes a nice set of hardware. That's what I used for this harness.

IMHO the 5 point harness from Pro Tech model parts is fairly easy to

assemble and looks realistic. Check it out.

That looks GREAT!  Is there a build thread for that one somewhere?

Dan those look absolutely killer but Google research shows the lead isn't used anymore. Hasn't been used since the 1990s. Is this stuff you've had stored since then?

Thanks for your kind words, Mike! I wish I'd blended the highlighting and shading better, but, I am happy with them! It's later than that. I called it lead, because it feels and works very much like lead. I would guess it's some sort of aluminum alloy. Verlinden used to sell lead foil. It was commonly used by military and figure modelers.

Thank you, Jonathan. I usually buy DM directly from them, unless I am at the hobby shop, when I need them.

A good material that is malleable like the old wine bottle lead is thin sheet pewter. This is available from craft suppliers and normally sold as a material for embossing projects.

It is also really good for shaping over compound curves.
