Michael jones
Gidday, As the title says, what is a good way to remove raised tire lettering without causing damage to the tire? thanks Mike
CabDriver
I like a really sharp scalpel blade, held at an angle to the tire so it slices it off cleanly, and a LITTLE lacquer thinner rubbed over the surface with a q-tip to smooth it out afterwards
afx
I removed lettering from these vinyl tires (leaving in place only Good Year) using a flat file and then finishing the side wall with fine sand paper. Rubber tires would be more difficult but I would try the same technique. Edited November 29, 2019 by afx

Put some masking tape over the outer portions of the blade leaving the center exposed, so you do not have any mishaps while handling... While being very careful make a few gentle swipes and it should take the lettering away without causing harm to the rest of the sidewall. I find it best to stop just shy sometimes and finish with varying grits of sandpaper using very light pressure. Hope this helps.
