Oshkosh snow plow

The sander chute looked pretty bland , being a fairly large part , I figured it needed some details . The spinner wheel is a scrap piece of 060 "  drilled out for its driveshaft . A few small paddles went on next . Ryan Pedone sent me a couple hydraulic motors,  so I drilled out the base to fit the driveshaft.

The real one had small brackets welded on the chute body w linkage rods to adjust the angle on side flaps..and small hinges .  A few pieces of 90 angle drilled out  and strip made a fair representation.

The product door needed its lift bar still. I made one from square tube , and small brackets.  The crank rod is copper wire mocked up.

I may make a handle from wire insulation to fatten up the crank rod .

I'm getting very close to primer now ...

Attention to detail is what it is all about!  I'm betting that when you get to the primer stage it will present an opportunity for a lot of fine tuning.  I've found that out in my own scratch building.  Just when I think something looks great, I do the primer thing and every little flaw stands out. There's something about working in white plastic that hides everything until that first coat of primer goes on.   But taking the time to clean up a lot of little areas will reward you spades!  Keep up the great work!  It's fun watching the progress.?

Reached the primer stage today on the frame and got the orange sprayed! I picked up a can of rusto allis Chalmers orange for the body , and wanted to see how it looked . Sprayed a test on a spare mack hood..

Weird how lighting makes frame look blue..its light gray primer lol. Planning to paint the sander hopper /  frame semi gloss black. The hood will get its flat black anti glare panel also

The details on the frame really pop now that you have primer on it.  That's a lot of widgets!!

Yeah , I actually meant to lightly tack most of the parts on making the painting easier..but enjoying the work so much , most of the parts stayed put. The white areas are where I removed the fender hangers to paint them orange.  The details really jump out now

The paint is dry, so it's time to start final assembly!!! The plow got a few touches of black along the discharge end , and the road scraper  The frame and sander hopper is semi gloss black , the diamond plate fenders is buffed aluminum plate,  and fuel tank ended up dull aluminum.

I might lower the black area on plow , the real one had more showing from the side ..we'll see

One last bit of fabrication left and it's off to the assembly shop ! The dreaded mirrors..I decided to suck it up and make em , 3/64 rod and a mirror head from the Ollie's 4300 parts kit. Squish the ends flat, glue , repeat..

I've also reached the milestone of the build finally reaching a rolling chassis!  Everything except the sander hopper and cab is permanently attached...then I remembered the muffler..oops !!! That's getting done now
