As expected, things have been going more slowly lately (as if it could be ...) but I found a little time on the bench during the rare rainy days or when the very hot and humid days were an invitation to take refuge in the basement. It's one of the hottest summer I've seen so far and it's far from over... After making the flywheel using a watch gear, I had the idea of making a starter a little more detailed than the ones I used to do. I had kept the tiny gear that was in contact with the big one, so I had a good idea (please read this as sarcasm) to use it to make the pinion bendix. By the way, I ordered a bottle of Birchwood Casey Brass Black, so I will possibly try to blacken the flyeheel teeth even if it is already taken in sandwich between the 2 aluminum parts. I do not know this product so if an expert knows that I should not dip aluminum in this product, your advice would be very appreciated... Here is where I am with this starter, I may try to anodize in black the motor frame in order to add a little color contrast. Comments and suggestions are welcome! Take care, Francis Starter drive end housing in progress. Starter mounting flange in progress. The bolts pattern match with the bellhousing as well. Starter parts including a brass selenoid. Starter temporaly assembled for test fit purpose. The starter Bendix pinion spin and slide freely on the shaft (even if it is useless...?). He also drag raced that car with the A/C running, and the radio blasting an Oldies station, full of fifties and sixties tunes. I am also a big fan of rock music, but I never raced while listening to music... I think it's a shame to cover the sound of a good big American V8 because it produces the most beautiful music!
