DRIPTROIT 71 Posted January 15, 2020 Share Posted January 15, 2020 (edited) This is a model of the first truck that I ever rode in as a kid with my dad. This was the spare truck and my dad had recently painted it. My dad had driven it to Kentucky where another 7400 had a broken steering box. My dad decided that he could fix the driver's truck faster than the driver could swap trucks. On the way back to Lexington NC, my dad stopped and let me ride to the shop with him. That night for unknown reasons this truck burned to the ground. It was my first ride and the truck's last. This began with a cab from Spaulding Trading and Shipping. I modified the grill to get it a little closer to the real thing. The chassis began with the AMT K123 kit. I shortened the wheelbase to 142" in scale. The Wheels and tires are from Scenes Unlimited. The engine and transmission is from the AMT 352 Peterbilt. Decals are from Diecast and Decals. Many other parts were taken from the parts box or scratch made. I may add some pictures with the trailer later, but I don't think that this truck ever pulled a trailer after it was painted. They never figured out why the truck burned, but I really don't think that they tried very hard. They had a leased fleet of KWs, nobody wanted to drive the 7400s. Hudson had just bought out Lexington Specialty Foods, that is why my dad repainted the cab, bumper and wheels. He turned the mudflaps around backwards so the old name wouldn't show.
