Got this off eBay few years ago. Disassembled it and threw it in the purple pond. Finally getting around to starting on it. Overall it’s in really good shape. Using amt 69 gt vert. as donor for chassis, eng. compartment,suspension..etc. Raided the parts box for some other stuff. Going with 440, 4 spd, wheel covers and heavily leaning towards Q5 turquoise and white interior A7C0F74B-0516-45A2-8AD1-BC0C33227BAF.jpeg.c4920543eb85286443ca7493be17011f.jpeg1E5B8C4B-6A8A-43CC-9A55-5F4FF35ED05B.jpeg.aa1e97511c5c3bdd7d577f7de2c72666.jpeg21C444BA-D823-4AC9-8D6B-56813F26EC35.jpeg.989f9752037dc293f3759ccc229ca48e.jpeg

Yeah baby!!

Now we're talkin'!

I love seeing these old kits redone with today's techniques and materials!

I built a hard top version of this kit a couple of years ago and I'm greatly looking forward to building the '68 hard top version of this car!

The turquoise that you have chosen will be absolutely beautiful!

Well, made some progress rather quickly. I dove into my “junkyard stash” and grabbed previously built gtx very. to use as my test fitting buck. I figured I’d rather use it to file and fit first than transfer end result to final ( new) A52D5AE0-FE88-45CB-B00A-4C1187358B03.jpeg.d704fd03ef3228dfa819d3af1a07cd19.jpegB7895B2B-80D9-47AB-96FA-4CB7F2C3E783.thumb.jpeg.72407574b886c31f3ed0211b441e6973.jpeg707E6E60-479C-4764-B5C8-38112E10E46C.thumb.jpeg.639e38c8912e6db4e5548835e0777888.jpegFEBED924-26FE-4337-A4AB-DD1F12152F07.jpeg.5be075255b0d46127cc549169e0868fb.jpeg14740A97-287D-47A0-957D-1C9964C0D71A.jpeg.95e3aceede702289cd044d43dd94cf6e.jpegchassis. It didn’t take much filing/ reshaping of the rear chassis sides, firewall and rad support. You can see the light blue plastic were it was filed.

Update: haven’t had a lot of time to work on it but did manage to get some stuff done. Got the basic chassis assembled and trued up minus the front subframe ( which will be painted separately before attaching) , filled seams where there shouldn’t be any, built up where there was a gap between chassis and front sub frame. On the body I opened the area below the grill opening , scribed in the lines where the fenders/cowl/doors meet as it was missing, started to prep where the sink marks are. Next stage is to get primer on both and fine tune everything.D493E891-74A0-4C79-9B56-CF30C07A85B3.jpeg.9a6c14222ccb614f86e78b9e4ce193ed.jpeg43D1C9EF-0FA8-408D-B2C5-1A0C7CEE97FF.thumb.jpeg.1466dbd412e0a214ab471530ae4fe7a4.jpeg940DDE47-A8B4-40E0-BE35-4CA64716CAEF.thumb.jpeg.f448fd0a57d0730ee4e118372f7ccb4a.jpeg66652FB0-1B00-42C8-9A3D-7AE3DBD704F7.jpeg.e5e8728d98ae9016c86a764535c43a07.jpegDBC343ED-2372-48B2-9192-718851592F99.jpeg.60e24908588d32a12f5b39941e8a4889.jpeg

  • 3 weeks later...

Been working on interior, seperated the interior tub sides, added upper trim, removed molded in arm rests and added arm rests from amt 69 gtx, added window crank knobs. Ground down original center console and added console from revell 69 charger kit. Used embossing powder for carpet to console and floor. Made foot pad.

I like where this one is going. I did a 69 R/ T hardtop the same way. I did mine in B5 blue with white trim, dog dishes on red lines. Your car looks great by the way. I'm going to follow this one closely.

Thanks Ron, B5 blue is one of my favorite colors and will likely be using that on my mpc 71 cuda with steelies and dog dishes.

Wow! Superb work on this one! I like all of the extra effort you put into the interior. It's going to pay off well for a convertible.

Later-

Thanks Tom, I figured since it’s a convertible I’d better make sure the interior looks sharp lol

Dave, this is stunning so far. Where'd you get the wood grain decals, those are great added realism items??

Thanks Gene, the wood grain decals are from the amt surf woody kit. I made templates out of tamiya tape and transfered it to the decals

As the owner of a 1:1 68 Coronet this is a great build to watch! Love the color choice.

My only comment is that you should have integrated the GTX convertible rear interior panels into your 69 R/T sides. The GTX panels very accurately depict the unique 66-70 B-Body convertible rear interior panels. On a white interior car the smooth plastics are solid glossy white and the textured plastics, seats and door cards have a slight pearl effect. Below is a picture of my original white rear interior panels (the armrests and door cards are removed in this picture).

Hi Craig, thank you for the input. I did ponder doing what you suggested with the gtx rear panels as I noticed as you did that the coronet panels were lacking there. I still might do it I was just weighing the work involved but it’s not off the table yet. As for the colors, it’s hard to tell in the pics but it is painted as you suggested. The textured surfaces, door panels, armrests and seats are painted “ off white/ pearlish “ and the hard surfaces ( upper door and lower door ) are gloss bright white. I had a 67 coronet with a white interior just as you described. Hopefully other pics will show off the nuances better. Thank you for looking and the suggestions as I really like to be as accurate as possible so another set of eyes is always helpful

I went back and looked at your pictures again for color (not distracted by the rear panels) and I can see the pearl off white in the door panels. Your build is really outstanding and I look forward to seeing it complete.

My father bought the 1:1 Coronet I have now when I was in High School (I took it to prom in the 80's) and I got it from him a few year later after it was wrecked when my younger brother was rear-ended. I have been slowly restoring it (any looking for parts) for 30ish years. I have noticed how many "high detail" builds are done with 68-69 MPC Coronets and most are done in more period common colors and not the high impact colors.
