B.R.B.O. K-123 Kenworth and 40' Great Dane Trailer

Recommended Posts

I'm calling this one finished. It is nothing fancy, just an old workhorse.

This is built to be a replica of the truck that my dad drove for a while. I had the privilege of riding all over the east coast with him in this truck. It was powered by an 8v-71T Detroit. The truck belonged to Wilco truck rental and had formerly been leased to Monkey Grip, so it had a pretty fresh paint job on it.

The truck began with an AMT K123. I swapped out the rear suspension with a Reyco style. The engine is from the AMT aerodyne kit with valve covers from the AMT 352 Peterbilt. The drive wheels are from the AMT Superboss kits with the center hubs drilled out. The front wheels are resin from an Ebay supplier. The 10 tires, front bumper, grill, intake stack, and fans are from KJ at Double Take Replicas. The deck plate is from moluninum.com. The dash panels came from Czech model truck parts. The air deflector is from an AMT Road Boss kit. Emblems, door handles and steps are from Auslow. The tanks are PVC pipe. Decals on the truck and trailer are from diecastanddecals.com. Ladders and turn signals are from the Revel K100.

The trailer is an old Ertl kit with resin wheels from an Ebay supplier. Oiler hubs are from molumnium.com.

Outstanding work  !!! I actually thought it was a few reference photos at first,  then realized it was a model lol.

Glad Joe came thru on the artwork, they look perfect on this workhorse

Congrats on a fabulous build , and thanks for participating

Definitely looks the part.  Very well done.  I really like your in cab details.

Thanks Jim! It took me a little bit to figure out how to get my camera to focus in on them though. ?

I just love this build, very clean and well detailed , excellent job!

Thanks Tom! I one of these when I was 13 or so, hand painting the letters on the trailer, but was never completely happy with it. I've been wanting to do one for years. I'm glad that I was able to get around to it.

Thanks Jeff! Thank you for helping me get decals for a build that I've been wanting to do for years. Without your help, this and the 7400 project would still be in the "maybe one day" stage.

Very impressive. It also appears you are not afraid to support a number of aftermarket vendors.

Thanks Bill! Most of the extras were collected over a few years. The decals were the last obstacle. I hoped to get this one as close as I could to the original.

Another fantastic job!  Your tractor trailer combo is a  lesson on how to do a realistic build. Every detail looks accurate and much more representative of the way most trucks looked back in the day.   Most of us are following your steps in kit bashing  and taking advantage of the aftermarket support to bring the reissues to the next level.

Very nice truck-trailer combo, Brian! Could be driven out of one of Ron Adams' fine trucking books! I'm gonna redo most of my old (mid 80's) truck builds to look similar (I've overdone it than with fancy paint and too much chrome)

Is this a 3D-printed grille on the KW?
