PettyKW43
This is a fabulous build in the works ! I have always wanted to do one of these , at some point I will after seeing this! Suggestion in regards to the cable, most steel cable ends up rusty . Even cable that’s used lots , you will see rust undertones with a semi polished steel look. PettyKW43
Spent over 20 years in the towing business and even running the winch everyday and hundreds of time a day you would see the rusty colors peaking through the shine of the bare metal cable.. gatorincebu
Jeff, I just found this build thread . As I don't visit thew Forum that often . Which I need to do. As I am missing some really great build threads like this one ! for the winch cable . If you want a more weathered look . You might want to drag the thread through some ground up chalk or artist pastels in the appropriate color . Keep up the good work on this one ! Be Well Gator

gotnitro?
Thanks everyone for suggestions, I'll have to pull this one back down for a few hrs and putter again. I also should get the binders and shackles ordered from shapeways to load out the deck
Paul Payne
Ran across this thread, usually don't browse the big rigs, but I'm rebuilding a die cast 1946 Dodge power wagon. Try washing your winch cable in Testors rubber, then dry brushing with steel. Testors rubber is great for grease, oil, and general crud.
