Hello,

This is the model I'm working on at the moment. I'm adding a scratch built roof rack and some tools inside to make look like a carpenter's van. I will post some of those photos later.

Photo 1: kit

Photo 2-6: since this kit has loads of opening doors I'm just doing a fitting test. I tend do o this with all my build anyways. Everything fits quite nicely on this kit. I just had to sand a bit the front doors.

Photo  7 and 8: after applying the primer and some masking to paint the red half

Phto 9-11: after the base coats and clear have been applied. I still feel like I have to improve my 2K clear application. I'm still getting some orange peel. Hopefully I can get rid of it doing some micromesh sanding and polishing.

Paint looks great on this. I've always had an interest in these vans. Looking forward to more.

Great to see your VW Van WIP. It made me pull out my Revell Samba Bus kit as I forgot it had opening doors all around. In the early 1970's I had a 65 which I will build a model of someday. Although it had a sunroof it was not a 23-window having 12 fewer windows so a lot of filling will be required. It also had a pass through to the cab area. I converted it into a sort of travel van with a hippie vibe.

I first got a Hasegawa kit but consider the Revell kit superior in many ways.

A great looking project. With all of the opening doors are you going to do anything with the interior ?

Looking good so far!  I built one of these last year, watch the hinges for the front doors on the front panel, they're really delicate.  It might be an idea to shorten the attachment points a little bit so it is easier to fit the front doors on as the hinges easily snap off the body (I wonder how I know that!).

Thank you Joe. I still want to grind and polish the paint job to make it more even but still waiting for the compounds and micromesh. Some deliveries are taking forever these days for obvious reasons. Once I get it I will posting some updates.

Hey Phil, I'm happy to see that my post motivated you to have a look to your old kit. You should definitely give it a go. It is a very nice kit for sure.

Hi again David,

I have done a bit of scratch building to add a toolbox in the loading area. I have also made  some tools. I will post some pictures of those soon.

Hello guys, just an update on this build

I sanded the 2K clear coat with micromesh (6000-12000) and then polished the body panels with the "ultimate polish system". The assembly of the body is done now. You can also see a tool rack and kind of a tool box that I scratch built for the interior. I only need to add the windows and a few more details and this build will be done.

Excellent build, really like the color combination and the details you have added to the interior.  I had a '72 Westphalia which I traded for a '78 Rabbit, boy was that a dumb move.

I like how you're doing the interior. Peg board and tools look just right here.

Very nice and cool build Armando!  The finish of your paint job along with your choice of colors is superb.  Very good scratch building done on the interior and on the tooling too.  You will soon get a call from Dave Kindig, this guy is crazy of these VW Vans!

Excellent work! I love the old panel vans. And the newer ones for that matter. :)

A friend of mine is nearing completion on his 1:1 van, in an almost identical colour scheme.
