Plowboy Posted August 14, 2020 Author Share Posted August 14, 2020 I got a few more small things done. Sometimes, the small things can make a big difference. As I was studying the side profile, I noticed that the hood as well as the crease in the side looked like it was nosing up and I didn't like the way it looked. Also, there were the big gaps between the hood and grille. So, I took off a mm or one and half from the front of the hood and faded it out to the rear. This eliminated the gap between the hood and headlight surrounds and substantially reduced the gap between the center of the hood and grille. While I was eliminating gaps, I decided to fill in the front of the hood and extend the raised portion to the bottom of the hood. Some may not notice the difference in the side profile. But, to me, there's a big difference. And now that I see the wheels in one color, I've decided to stick with them. I may paint the hubcaps with Mica Silver instead of going with chrome. I filled in the section below the tailgate and modified it to more resemble the full scale. I'm thinking I'm going to leave the rear bumper off for now. If I do use it, I'm going to flip it. I had a body line scribed in at the rear of the bed. But, it was in the wrong spot. So, I filled it back in and am going to leave it smooth. The interior work is done. I made door panels (the handles, window cranks and arm rests will be separate pieces) to fit the Lightning tub. It's a tight fit. But, it will slide in. I also made a simple headliner. Don't know if I'll glue it to the window runners or directly to the roof and then modify the glass. I'm really close to being able to shoot some serious primer on this thing. If it were full scale that setup would move this truck good! I also like how you integrated the exhaust. The guy took an '07 Lincoln Town Car, cut the body from the floor pan and firewall. Then draped a '61 Ford unibody over it. The only thing he did that I didn't care for was he used the Lincoln dash. But, it had every amenity of the Lincoln. So, I kinda understood his thinking. The body was just as it was when he bought it from the junkyard. He said it rode and drove like a Lincoln, just looked like an old beat up '61 F-100. I wanted to buy it. But, he wouldn't even put a price on it. I also have the inside of the bed, cab interior, underside of the hood and the underhood area of the cab in paint. I was going to paint the outside today. But, I noticed that the line on the side of the hood on the driver's side doesn't line up with the line on the cowl. So, I'm going to have to rework the line on the hood and get it back in primer. I have plenty more to do while that gets worked out: the mind numbing task of removing all of the mold lines on every little remaining part! 1 hour ago, espo said: I like how you habve changed the body for the better. I'm going to have to see it all together in color to make that decision. The silver isn't doing much for me at the moment. That could change once I get them detail painted. I've been enjoying this build and following along because I have a '63 that is close to the workbench. It's just going to be a shelf-sitter so I won't do the chassis swap, But I've seen several things on your truck that are on the must do list. Thank you for the tips and inspiration. The filled hood has quite a natural look to it. The underhood area came together pretty well also. Can't wait to see the engine setting in there! I really like how the interior is shaping up. Can't wait until it's dry enough to handle so I can set it on the chassis! The color doesn't show very well under the lighting. It's easy to see why it's called Gray Green! That's how I like to build my models. I always want them to be something I would want to own if they were full scale. I did another mockup to do one final check to make sure everything was going to fit the way it should. The only issue I found is either the bed floor is slightly warped or I didn’t get the rear of the frame glued back together perfectly square. The left front of the bed doesn't want to rest on the frame completely. Just maybe a half mm. It will go down by simply adding weight in the corner. So, it'll glue fine. Most of what was in the front got cut away. The rest had to repaired. Soon after a fresh paint job is not the time to break out a Dremel with a router bit! But, it had to be done to allow clearance for the headlight reflectors. I had enough for the original plan. But, that plan got changed. I cut reflectors from a set of custom Lucas headlights. All four had to be cut apart, modified and reshaped to look more like an actual reflector. I also opened the slots in the upper grille bar. I have a lot of time in this grille!
