Plowboy Posted August 29, 2020 Author Share Posted August 29, 2020 I now have a good pile of painted parts. We'll see if I can glue them together and make them look like something. The body has been cleared and sanded smooth ready to be polished. I'll start with the chassis and work my way up. I'm not going to glue the wheels on as I don't think they're going to make the cut. I'm ordering a set of Pegasus Shueys and a set of Hollis for it to see what they'll look like. I can't wait to start getting the engine pieces together to see what it's going to look like! Plowboy Posted September 4, 2020 Author Share Posted September 4, 2020 Thanx guys! I've made some decent progress. I have the chassis done. I'm debating on whether or not I want to add any details. The engine is pretty much done. I didn't add a lot of details. Just enough to make it a little more interesting. They'll be a few more added once the cab is mounted permanent. Love how you married the modern drivetrain with the old body, definitely a great combo. As far as those Shuey's, search the internet for some examples of what others have done. I think a dull cote will make them fit into the look better. I personally would shoot the centers a darker gray to contrast with the body color. And that's why I'm not going to use them on this model. I keep comparing this model to the three other pickups I have: the old school '60, the phantom '48 and the '62. Sometimes, I think too much! So, I've decided to allow it to have it's own identity and stick with my original plan. From the beginning, I wanted this model to be a mesh of old and new. The steel wheels fit my idea best. I literally wore some of the paint off of the frame from handling it so much! But, none of them suited the look like the steel wheels. There's no tire contact front or rear. I shaved around an eighth inch from the sleeves so that I could get them tucked in nicely and have room. I had to do some shaving on the A frames for clearance also. I looked at the Lightning fenderwells. Way too much work. Too short. Shaped wrong for the body. I'm not saying it couldn't be done. But, the amount of work it would have taken wasn't worth the effort for me. I got a bit of shine on the body and did a final test fit with the interior and floorpan in place. I also did some mockups with alternate wheels. The Foose wheels. And I painted the Lightning wheels black. They give it a sinister look! But, the grille and bumpers would need to be black also to truly work. Another shot that shows the interior a little. I'm very happy with how it fits!
