Wife Has Pancreatic Cancer

My wife has been struggling with her health since October and was originally diagnosed with pancreatitis and got some better but came June she got worse and thats when the test came back at the end of July as cancer of the pancreas so a appointment was made at Cancer Treatment Center Of America in Zion Illinois..

After spending a week at Cancer Treatment Centers Of America where we were just kicked like a stray dog and told flat out "Just go home and live your life as best and normal as you can with what time you have left" because the was no surgeon there that could do this type of work because of the mass was on a artery and this was given to us from a doctor with a bed side manner of a cardboard box ….. That was a week ago Thursday we got this unacceptable answer and I remember the walk back to the hotel I told Lisa to call Cleveland Clinic because they are not only in our back yard and they cut arteries and aortas all day flippin' long and she did and within 12 hours after the call we had a appointment for today to meet with the doc and surgeon.... First Both my wife Lisa and I understand and realize what we are up against with cancer of the pancreas but for the first time in the past month of the news of the "c" word but we actually got very , VERY encouraging news from Dr. Shapiro and even more encouraging news from surgeon Dr. Simon and they both had bed side manner of true angels..... While the doc said there will be more chemo treatments before surgery can be done because they have to make sure they "c" stays where it's at and if so then he said she would be a candidate for him to go in there and kick this demons ass!!! As we are not out of the woods yet but we have found a pathway that we can see some light at the end and Lisa has to keep fighting and we have a battle ahead of us but there is hope....and I want to say a special thank you to Cleveland Clinic for hope  …….

Sorry to hear this but it’s enlightening to hear your wife is not going home to “just” live out the rest of her days!! Just proof of don’t always go with the first docs ideas, always get a second opinion! Always! Glad to hear there is hope!
Different subject but my daughter has a rare syndrome and we know a couple other kids that have the same and are treated at Cleveland Clinic. We hear nothing but the best from there!! One of the docs there had also seen my daughter and we feel the same towards him! Sounds like Lisa, good name by the way (my wife’s name too) is in good hands!!
Best to you both as you, as you say, kick this demons ass!!!
Wishing the best surgery, quick recovery and c free!!!!!

I'll be sending prayers your way. Cancer may as well be the devil himself.

I lost my dad 2 months ago to stage 4 liver cancer... he passed a week before his 49th birthday. Of course he had a whole myriad of other health issues and lifelong problems with alcohol and substance abuse.

Y'all can beat it! Don't give up and fight like hell! I'll be rooting for you both!

God, Good Doctors, and willpower can pull you through anything in high gear with a slipping transmission and a fouled spark plug!

Sorry to hear about your wife's cancer, and hope the Clinic can help. She'll be in my prayers.

I had a coworker who's wife was diagnosed and CTC wouldn't do anything for her either. I wonder if they cherry pick patients.

Btw, I worked in Akron until I retired in 2018.

She's in the hands of the best!  My mom's brother had cancer and the local Dr's told him there was nothing they could do so he went to the Cleveland Clinic.  They found other affected body parts and came up with a treatment plan.  He said it gave him several years that he never expected to have.

Sorry to hear of your wife's diagnosis but thankfully you sought a second opinion and got better news. I hope she is able to beat this cancer and go on to live a long life.

I used to live near that CTC location and while there are stories of people they have helped, I have heard almost as many stories of people like yourselves who get told "Sorry, nothing we can do."  CTC is a for profit operation (the guy behind it has been going thru a messy divorce) and some of the details of his lavish lifestyle would make you wonder how he could sleep at night knowing some people spend tons of money in search of a cure while he has a private jet to go to one of his many homes in places many of us dream about.
