1/25 Revell Peterbilt 359 heavy haul

Recommended Posts

Hey all

This is my Revell 1/25 Peterbilt 359 4 axle heavy haul tractor. I'm making this from the Revell "can do" wrecker kit.

20200616_111811.jpg

I started this by assembling the frame and suspension. I also stretched the frame a scale 2 feet so that I could add two extra tanks, 4 fuel tanks in all. I also added a step in between the two tanks on the drivers side.

This rig will have Scenes Unlimited 10 hole Alco wheels, Bridgestone L375 445/65R 22.5 front floats, Bridgestone M710 285/75R 22.5 drive tires and Michelin "X" 445/50R 22.5 super singles on a lift axle.

20200718_145656.jpgthis figure is from the 1/24 Airfix Mosquito kit. I modified him by removing his officers hat and turnig it into a baseball cap. I also turned his shoes into cowboy boots.

3-axle-trailer-6.jpgthis is a side view of the 4 axle Peterbilt 359. I also have a 3 axle 24' well Loadking drop nose trailer with flip up rear axle, a 4 axle drop nose trailer with flip up rear axle, a Caterpillar 336E excavator and I'm working on a Cat D8H/K and D8T bulldozer. These are modeled up in NX11 and I my be able to 3D print parts of them on my 3D resin printer. Since I modeled them full size I should be able to print them to any scale. Well that's it for now be back with more updates soon.

Hey all

Brief update, I have the NTC-475 Cummins twin turbo engine assembled ready for paint. This Revell Cummins  engine is pretty nicely detailed, but it was missing two pipes one oil one fuel, it was missing the oil dip stick and it didn't come with a stater moter!!! really Revell, big no no. Right now I'm waiting on wheels and tires from Scenes Unlimited so I can finish up how the wheels and brake drums will mount.  I need to know this so I can finalize the frame so I can paint it. I need some 0.014" diameter brass rod so I can make the door hinges (I have a set of piano hinges from Model Garage). I'm debating weather I should have the sleeper top removable to display the interior detail or not, I'm still up in the air with this.

Thanks guys

I have the Cummins NTC-475 twin turbo just about finished. I'm almost ready for paint. Here are some pictures for you to look at.

Hey all

Here is a picture of the truck, trailer and 336 excavator.

Here is a picture of the truck, trailer and a ALL NEW!!! 390FL excavator.

20200907_201341.jpgnow thats a big S.O.B. it doesn't even fit on the 4 axle trailer even with the outriggers out. It's 20' 6" from the ground up to the tallest part of the boom arm. I guess I'm going to have to design a bigger trailer.? That's it for now be back with more soon.

Not even close. This machine would be broken down to transport. To heavy and to big to transport in one piece. My estimate would be about 6 loads. Track would be transported separately 2 probably legal loads, bucket would be by itself 1 oversize overweight load, arm by itself 1 overweight load, main frame by itself 1 oversize overweight load, machine body by itself as a super load.

Good info, thanks. Makes sense, something I haven’t thought much about.

Where I live you can have a gross weight of 64 metric tons on the roads so you need a special permit as a broken down Cat 390 is still too heavy and too wide.
The complete machine weighs 86-90 metric tons tons depending on version, around 200000 lbs, so they usually take off the counterweight, the stick and the bucket, so what they transport is the basic machine with the boom only and the taken off parts on another trailer or maybe two.
When transported the machine straddles the trailer and is blocked up as the track width is too wide for most trailers at 4.41 meters, 14.5 ft, so the tracks are hanging free outside of the trailer bed just over the ground, the machine is quite high at 4.89 meters, 16.08 ft, to the top of cab and that's another reason for getting it as low as possible when transported so you can clear overpasses and tunnels.

Hey steel tiger

There's a video on YouTube of someone moving a complete with bucket 390fl from Conexpo 2020 on a what looks like a nelso tyoe 3x3x3 trailer, so it is possible. Although not inder any 16' 6" clearance bridges...lol

Ron G

Yes you can transport a complete Cat 390, but there are some limitations you have to take in consideration, like weight, hight and width, how far you have to transport it, and if there are any bridges, overpasses or tunnels on the route.
Where I live you can have a gross weight of 64 metric tons on most of the road network and you need a special permit as a broken down Cat 390 is still too heavy and too wide.
The complete machine weighs 86-90 metric tons depending on version, around 200000 lbs, so they usually take off the counterweight, the stick and the bucket, so what they transport is the basic machine with the boom only and it's still too heavy, the taken off parts are transported on another trailer or maybe two.

On the 5 mile road construction project where I work right now we have two Cat 374F's, one Cat 352F, three Cat 336F's (one is a long reach) and some smaller Volvo excavators like one EC 290, two EC 250's, one EC 220, one EW 170 and one EW 160, one Cat D8 dozer, seven wheel loaders, one Cat 988, one Cat 980, one Volvo L90, two L70's and two L60's,  eight Volvo Dumpers, three A40's two A30's and three A25's, one Cat 140M grader and two Cat Compactors, one CS68B and one CS66B.
We have downsized some since last winter so some machines are sent away as there were more earler, but the ones I mentioned above is what we have right now.
So I have seen my fare share of machine transports lately.;)
