First of all, I'm see that I am not alone with eye issues. Just got a diagnoses from the eye doctor that I have early stages of ghaucoma. With the sight reduction and the sensativity to bight light it is sad to say that my modelling days are numbered. I have tried all the tips that heard of and it is still very difficult to work at the hobby that has been a part of my life for over 50 years. While I have not posted any of my builds here, yours have been a delight to see. I have about 150 kits that will sold in the next few months. I'm not saying poor me, I'm saying it has been great watching everyones builds and learning from them. I have learnd a lot and my builds reflect this. In closing Thank you for everything and I will stalking the pages here even though I will no longer be building. Gary

I understand.......I have a eye appointment coming up that will decide what we are doing. Cataract surgery for sure and something for macular degeneration.  Stay positive and hang in there.

I too have had eye issues, in part due to my near-sightedness.  Floaters, staring in college, have become extensive over the years.   Eyesight deteriorated to 20/200, though it has come back about 30% (to 20/140) over the last few years.   Started losing ability to read up close while wearing contacts about 20 years a, and soon discovered that some of my models built over the several years prior, while wearing contacts, didn't have the best quality of workmanship, especially in paint detailing.  More recently, early stages of cataracts though apparently nowhere needing surgery at present. 

Finally, started experiencing flashes in one eye in December, which I had been told to see an Opthamologist immediately if it ever happened due to my nearsightedness and floaters.  I did the following Monday, was immediately referred to a Retina Specialist and ended up having retinal laser surgery that afternoon, having experienced a retinal tear in my right eye.  All this as the pull-ahead due date for completing my book project was just days later.   Then the same thing happened with my left eye in early March; again retinal eye surgery the same day.  No further deterioration but floaters remain a big distraction.   Doctors all told me my model building was not a cause of the eye issues.   

Took a while to get back to modeling but I did, having completed several projects since then.  Big help was getting some flip-down magnifying lenses from Micro-Mark.  

Bottom line, see eye doctors as least once a year, try magnifying lenses or fixtures of various types until you find one that works for you, and take care of your eyes no matter what, even if it does mean stopping modeling.

Very sorry to hear of your sight issues. As others here have mentioned their problems with their eye sight the bottom line is that eye surgery advancements of the last few years has been huge. Perhaps your Optometrist  can refer you to someone that can repair your eye sight.

As we age, giving up things becomes a part of life. I used to race motorcycles  and vintage sports cars, play golf and do all sorts of physical activities. A broken back (racing a go-kart), ribs, a concussion and degenerative disk disease have taken their toll. At 76, there will be more things to give up. I'm still trying to build models but like you, I have eye issues as well as unsteady hands. I guess the little saying in my signature sort of sums it up.

Gary, I am so sorry for your condition, it could be many years before you have to give up the hobby. God bless will say a prayer for you. Please stay with us.

Thank you for your words of encouragement. I have not give up by any means. As you age stuff like this happen, eye issues run in the family. Being a diabetic does not help. Just have keep on going on. Gary
