427 cobra

Well I put a 1/12 917/30 on the shelf for now to do this car. The model factory hiro Porsche 917/30 is a very intense build. The cobra F8979FEB-09AD-4AE6-9CAE-D92B8C94CE34.thumb.jpeg.50164c9659e729b42dd27ab3472e3835.jpegis “model factory hiro lite”.  Not as intense. My buddy Mark had a mfh fire sale. So I had to get this. Wanted a lot more but the wallet could not do it. Anyway this is the start. Had to fit and prep  the white metal doors , deck lid and hood. Took a few hours to do. Next is mounting the parts for fit. Make sure doors open etc. This build will take awhile. Another long journey into mfh. Trying to do a early car with the starburst wheels. But this may change. The body will take several weeks to get right. So here we go.......

Yes, these cars were pretty rough. The body quality was all hand made and not very even or good.  The restored cars are so much better. Now you know all the weak points and fix them. I remember in 1969 fixing the aluminum right below the door. It always cracked. It was just part of owning a cobra. I am trying to fit the windshield frame. It came in really rough and bent. Mfh gives you a pattern to go by. Because it’s so bent up.

The rear deck lid took several hours. Had to get the shape back of the deck lid. The deck lid hinge was very distorted. The hinge did not fit the opening in the resin. So you have to sand to fit. Mfh kits are like this. They are not easy. But stick with it and it comes out. Not a shake and bake kit. And not for the faint of heart. Doors next.

The doors are fun . Drill the hinges, mount them to the doors. There is another resin piece that goes into the body. I have to drill holes for the screws to mount this piece of resin. Have to make a upper brace for the body. Have to take out the piece of resin supporting the upper body. Have to think how I’m going to do this.

OK, I will still follow along with great interest but I have seen enough to know that I will save my cash because this Cobra is above my meager talents. ?

Sir Ray , you have talents far beyond this cobra.

I had a good chuckle Bruce when I read your comment about putting the MFH Porsche aside for now "intense"......then I see what you're doing here with the Cobra.  To think that you think THIS isn't intense...........shaking my head.   I like what you've done already but this kit looks as challenging as any.  Cheers, Tim

Thank you guys. Tim this kit is model factory hiro lite. The tubes on the Porsche give me a nervous breakdown. The mfh p4 Ferrari , I needed therapy. Chris Smith has done a fantastic job on his 917 hippie car. Soooo many tubes. The cobra is not so bad. The body is a little challenge. I don’t know why, but you pay so much for these kits and they just don’t fit. They get close but you have to figure a lot out on your own. Fit the doors. I thought the doors would be easier. Ha! Not so. I’m going to paint the car jet black. So back to Sanding and blocking out the body.
