Tamiya 1/24 Jaguar Mk. II Saloon

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

Here's my first post sharing the newly finished model since I stopped building scale models for 10 years!

I started with a couple of kits that I bought back in 2010 - This particular Tamiya kit (produced in 1995) comes with lots of detailed parts such as fabric carpet, metal transfer for moldings, with higher part count than typical 90s Tamiya products.

Engine, underbody and interior was joy to build, but getting all the chrome moulding with BMF, and attaching metal transfer were too challenging for me (I ended up super gluing thin chrome stripes and supplementing with BMF), and applied BMF got messy when I was attaching windshield and windows to the body, as well as when attaching the body to the chassis which were both unusually challenging for Tamiya.

I'm a bit disappointed that my skill didn't do justice to this amazing kit, but it was overall enjoyable experience. Photos hide a lot of imperfections and next time I'll try to shoot with narrower aperture to capture all the details. Thank you for looking!

Build details:
Straight box build
Exterior: Tamiya TS14 w/o clear, polished with Tamiya compounds(coarse, fine and finish) then applied BMF
Interior: Tamiya TS-33 dull red and other Tamiya acrylic colors

Beautiful black paint and some of the best looking wire wheels in scale.  I've built this kit and yours looks great.

Looks amazing, especially the interior! When I was a kid in the 80's a young neighbour had one in silver. It was all rusty and back fired constantly. Scrap then, worth a pretty penny now!

You aren't alone...a lot of people had a hard time getting the metal transfers to stick, especially to curved surfaces.   I have this kit too and another area of weakness is the front and rear window trim. Tamiya's molding in this area is faint.  Yours turned out nicely...I like the black on red too!

I love the darker shade of red on the MKIIs!
