Plowboy Posted September 12, 2020 (edited) Another older build. Thinking maybe fifteen years ago. It's the old Monogram kit from around the same time. The only changes from the box are the wheels/tires and I separated the exhaust from the rearend. The paint is Dupli Color Bright Red with Tamiya clear. I remember being shocked that even after thirty plus years, the decals still worked like they should. Thanx for checking it out! espo Posted September 12, 2020 Great looking T/A, very smooth looking paint work. I like the way you detailed the engine, especially how the exhaust would always rust up.

But I'm afraid that R/M may have modified the tool to make the 70 T/A that we've been seeing since the 90s. Just like AMT redid their 77 Camaro into the first 70 Z28 in the 90s - not the new tool that we see now.

Even if they did, they still have the '77 body that could be updated.

Jeffcad Posted September 14, 2020 Hello Roger. Fantastic build and your paint job is absolutely gorgeous! I am myself using Duplicolor paints ans duplicolor clears on my models. I didn't know that using Tamiya's clears on top of the Duplicolor would work. The clear Duplicolors are working fine but require a lot of sanding to remove pretty strong orange peel effect. Hours of sanding and really hard to achieve in curved surfaces or strong angles...I managed to do a pretty decent job but I wonder if the Tamiya gives smoother layers. So, as your Pontiac is mirror shine, do you need a lot of sanding after the tamiya to get this so clean result ?. Thanks in advance to let me know. I had the same issue with the Perfect Touch clear on another model. The orange peel was excessive and it did seem to take a lot of sanding to get it smooth. Once smooth and polished, it had a great shine. But, it made me not want to use it again. This model actually hasn't been sanded or polished. It's straight from the can. It has a little orange peel in the headlight buckets. But, not bad. I don't always get the Tamiya Clear to lay down this slick. When I don't and have to sand and polish, it sands down smooth pretty easily. I won't use anything else anymore. I'm done with non hobby primers and clear.
