slusher
Jim, loving this build! Did the engine and rear end housing your using come in the kit?

Trying to build this one (mostly) box stock! The kit comes with a stock T engine, plus the Frontenac head and the various hot-rod parts I’m using (tube axle, different wheels etc.). That said, I’m actually only using the front wheels from the kit and swapped in a pair of chromed steelies for the back end...one of the rears was bust in the box... Frame-assembly day today! Using some 5-minute epoxy to get the front and rear suspension in place - the fit is a little ‘loose’ so this gives me a little working time to get everything square and true. Engine, suspension and a few photo-etch bolt heads in place: And back the right side up: Wheels on (for a mock-up anyway) - it’s a cute little frame! I like it! And a mock-up with the body, because I’ve been waiting to see how it’ll look on there: I like it! I’ll let the glue on the frame setup properly overnight before messing with it too much more, but I like how it’s coming together! More soon! alan barton
Hi Jim, that is looking very cool and the stock front end works just fine! I got some photos last night of the crossmembers. They are simple enough but what is kinda cool is that they have mounting pins top and bottom, which I have tried to show in the photo. The bottom pins go into the locating holes in the top of the frame and the top pins go into the locating holes in the bottom of the interior tub. To help out Dennis, I have also posted pictures of the black plastic parts that would be white plastic in the version you suggested to him and also what the chrome sprue looked like on the original Double Kit release. I have found nearly everything now but am still hunting for the headlights. I have a very organised parts box system which is why it was easy to find stuff but once I earmark parts and put them in a box with a project, then I have to rely on my memory and that is not nearly as organised! I won't be starting my project right away as I want to get the American Grafitti police car finished first. Cheers Alan

I wonder if I have those parts? That would make mounting the body easier...I didn’t think I’d seen them but now I’m doubting myself. Appreciate you taking the time to photograph those for me!! alan barton
My pleasure! Thinking about it, using those crossmembers would raise the body on the frame. It might be just as effective to simply superglue some short pins into the holes on the frame that are visible in your photos and drop the interior over them - bazzinga, positive location with low ride height! Cheers Alan Oh, the holes line up huh? I hadn’t studied them close enough yet to figure out how to get the interior lined up the with the frame yet...sounds like you’re right! Pin it and stick it! ? ? That makes things a LOT easier!
alan barton
Just here to help, mate! Actually, the more I think about it, the more I think I will leave those crossmembers out altogether and get the body down out of clouds. Judging by your photos, the original tub clears the gearbox OK. Cheers Alan

Cheers Alan Yeah, I THINK there’s plenty of space over there - haven’t noticed anything hanging up on anything else yet...that’ll happen once I’m about to glue it together I’m sure ? A little bit of progress today...shot the headlamp lenses with a little mist of candy yellow, just because, then got them mounted to the grill and rad and got them mounted to the frame: I had an idea to make a flying eyeball emblem for the top of the radiator shell and there’s almost all you need in the kit already with the temp gauge that they supply you with. Used a half-sphere bead for the eyeball, the eyeball decal from the new Revell 29 kit and after a little (lot) setting solution and a coat of clear ended up with this: Looks cool on there I think - just a fun little detail: If you look through the headlamp lenses you can see the bulbs I added too - drilled out the stock buckets and added a short length of clear plastic tube to add a little interest. Oh, and scratchbuilt a starter crank, for my own amusement. Tomorrow’s excitement will (probably) be the interior tub...soon as the glue dries on the embossing powder. Today’s end-of-day mock-up: More soon! Edited October 7, 2020 by CabDriver

CabDriver
Thanks fellas! Nearly done on this one - painted the windshield frame, made some glass and shot some color on the last couple of little parts this morning, then polished out the body: Went to Walgreens to collect my photo prints - I did some research and Indiana will allow you to run an era-correct plate on your car so I found a 1927 plate and got one printed up Got the interior parts in place... And that’s about a wrap on this one! Photos under glass soon! Thanks to all who commented and followed along!

styromaniac
Love the Eyeball too! I set aside parts to do just that awhile back but haven't got around to it yet. Using the decal is a neat trick.
