1929 Ford Pickup 80's Contemporary Street Rod - A Tim Boyd Tribute!

Thanks Bill, I had those smooth hood sides in my hand tonight but with the combination of parts I am using I have decided to go with Kit's idea of reworking the AMT hood, mainly for having a solid one piece unit.  Only chore is that after preliminary fitting it looks like I will have to extend the leading edge to meet up with the grille.

With a few parts from a whole lot of other kits!  This went sideways about the introduction of parts from other than REVELL/MONOGRAM.  Kit bashing may be an art in it's own!!

It's really fun to see Dennis' original build thread expand to include similar projects by all you who are following this thread!  

As for me, now thinking maybe this will be the year I finish up my early 1980's project of a scale replica of the Jim Jacobs Model A pickup that I posted much earlier in this thread...

I was hoping we might entice you into finishing the 1980's project of a scale replica of the Jim Jacobs Model A pickup, @tim boyd@Dennis Lacy and I had talked about the possibility!! @Rocking Rodney Rat ( @Rockin' Rodney Rat ) was very instrumental in continuing this tribute thread, as well!! @alan barton's contribution has moved this thread around the world! Thanks to everyone, especially those that just checked in on us having fun with the Revell '29 PU! -KK 16.7K VIEWS WOW!!!!  And, @bill-e-boy's Tribute thread has also been fun to watch, too!

UPDATE!

As you may recall back in the first pages of this thread I showed that I started on a sister roadster pickup to go with my closed cab. I had a pretty good start on the roadster but decided to put it aside so that I could focus on one model at a time. I’ve since finished the closed cab, finished a T Touring hot rod and am in the middle of the paint process on a customized ‘57 Chevy. That means I have an opening on the fabrication end and today I decided to bring the sister roadster pickup back up to the front burner!

I decided to change the wheels to the set I originally showed in my opening post and today got the front wheels adapted to the dropped axle, got the front axle fit to the frame and also got the Corvette IRS assembled and fit to the frame. To finish the chassis set up I need to adapt the rear wheels and build some rear shock mounts on the frame to match the other truck. From there I’ll need to create the interior and do a few body related things and it can go to primer and paint. 
 

Here’s a basic mock up with the wheel change. Rear tires are simply sitting under the fenders for now. This truck is also NOT going to be surf themed (and most likely not any kind of theme) but I’m thinking I might tie the color scheme into the closed cab. Then again, maybe not. We’ll see...

A little square stock to fill a couple of openings between the cab firewall and the roadster floorboard.

Taking out the bow in the back of the roadster seat...

and, sanding it square to the floorboard was a must...

Trying to get to the point where I will have to deal with the doors.  I know the door panels are going to really give the interior the finishing detail this kit has always missed!

I'm getting to the point where I have an opening on the bench, so an RPU version is what's next, huh? Hmmmmm..... Mind if I kinda go off script on my RPU? I have some ideas.... -RRR

For my rendition I am looking at the Lil John Buttera T chassis. I pulled the chassis from under the 34 I built years ago - what a struggle. I seem to remember that it was a mission to get the body mated to the chassis when I built it originally. The idea is to eyeball the chassis under the guards to see what is needed. @tim boyddid one yonks ago as posted earlier in this thread

The front end looks good but will need to be moved forward a little - needs work around the apron - I may take it out altogether.

At the rear I have recessed the rear cross member into the A pickup bed rails but it needs more - about 4.5mm more. The wheel base will need to be extended too. This will be the first mod to the donor chassis - not the red one, a virgin one

It could do with some taller tyres in the back so will start hunting out some. The 37 Cabrolet are wider but the same height. Any suggestions?

The top suspension locator bars on the front end rub against the guards so some relieving will required.

The fire wall will need to be recessed a tad to fit the motor in there.

I am just glad that I have access to a built up chassis to see what I will need to change to get it together. Saves a truck load of time of change - test fit - change - test fit ...........

Hi Bill,

Just a few thoughts.  I like the idea of extending the front of the frame, and I seem to recall that someone on here, relatively recently, extended the rear of the frame.  Me, I must be awkward because when I put this frame under an AMT 29 roadster many years ago, I stretched it in the middle, using a roughly 4mm long piece of flat styrene that, when fitted between the front and rear half, just looked like a heavy duty reinforcing plate for a crossmember or something.  Hard to describe so I will get a photo tonight. Maybe not the best engineering of a tube space fame in the world but it did avoid rejigging front or rear end brackets.

My favourite hot rod rears are the Monogram radial GT s that came in a lot of their muscle car kits - I recall the Heavy Chevy Chevelle particularly and the Street Stalker Camaro but I am sure there are lots of others.  I normally use the larger diameter - they are wonderful, but I just ran out so am using the slightly smaller diameter or my closed cab, which I don't mind on this theme.

The rear fenders are huge and need fairly large diameter tyres to fill them. On the Lil John T he must have fabbed new rear fenders to match the tyres he used. They have a smaller radius than the originals 

I think I have seen a pix of the frame stretch somewhere so will look at that but the rear does need to be lifted up so may end up doing something along the lines of what @tim boyddid. May a combo of the two

May be a few days as a "real" project in the "real" workshop has priority on my free time at the moment
