Plowboy Posted September 29, 2020 Share Posted September 29, 2020 (edited) Just finished this one up. It's a kitbash of an original AMT 1960 F-100 and a Revell '99 Lightning. This project was a lot of fun as well as challenging! It took quite a bit of work to mesh the two kits together. The most difficult part was getting the interior and firewall to work together. A lot of test fitting and modifications! The rest was pretty easy. It's basically a reskinned '99 Lightning. The Lightning provided the chassis, drivetrain, disc brakes, firewall and floor pan. The '60 provided the body, seat, dash and steering wheel. The wheels are Pegasus sleeves narrowed an eighth inch. Centers are from an AMT '62 Bel Air. Hubcaps are from a '61 or '62 F-100. Tires from the Lightning. The frame was shortened down to a 110 inch wheelbase, C notch, new shock mounts, spring perches added and the gas tank was relocated to the rear. The engine received a few details with a set of headers from a Revell Mustang Mach III. The cab and bed were separated. The bed was cut down to a short bed. The vent glass was removed. The hood got filled in front with a pie section on the sides. The grille was opened, molded in headlights removed and replaced with reflectors and lenses. Paint is Tamiya Gray Green and Racing White. Also,a big thanx goes out to Tom Geiger who kindly donated the side view mirrors from a Revell Chevy pickup. They look like they were made for it. Thanx for checking it out! The meshing of the two truck looks so seamless it's as if the kit was engineered like this, along the lines of AMT's Phantom Vicky Or Revell's Foose FD100. I love the colors you chose and that you stuck with the steelie wheels and dog dish caps. It looks like an old truck but at the same time it's immediately obvious it's a hot rod. I mean this in the best possible way, but when I first read the description without having seen the photos I was expecting it to look much more obviously modified. The finished result is so clean and well thought-out, with a really subtle colour and wheel choice that enhances the super-clean look. I do my best to make these bashes look as natural as possible. Sometimes they're easy. Sometimes they're more challenging. I made a set of Moon discs that fit these wheels from the bottoms of soda cans. They totally change the look! When I get a chance, I'll temp glue them with Elmer's and snap a couple of photos.
