True, large commercial trucks have a longer production run than cars and pickups, but lets compile some knowledge of years of the same general styling or feel free to add any details when minor changes occured. ( bumpers changed, emblems changed etc. ) I'll start with the first AMT truck kit, the California Hauler. Your list nails exactly what they were. Hopefully we can expand on this list and include how they can be back dated or forwarded dated with little modifications before the styling completely disappeared. Here are some examples. The Ford C series tilt cab does represent the year of issue '70-'72, but, with minor modifications can be built as a '57 thru '90. '58 thru 60's had dual headlights and '74 thru '90 had wider fenders. The Mack R model, can be expanded back to '66 and forward to 05? Nice work on the list, it's very helpful. But I noticed a thing that's not entirely correct there and it's the engines in the Italeri US truck kits kits and the reboxed Italeri kits issued by Revell and AMT. Italeri only has two engines in these kits, except for the Volvo VN wich has no engine, and it's Detroit Diesel Series 60 for the Peterbilt truck kits and Cummins NTC for all others. Some of the Cummins engines in the Italeri US truck kits are most likely meant to be N14 but they don't look like one, the valve covers on the N14 are square shaped but the kit engines still has for the older NTA/NTC significantly shaped valve covers and Italeri took a shortcut (as they usually do) and only did a couple of changed parts to do an air to air aftercooler/intercooler for the engine instead of the water to air aftercooler the NTC originally has, so they don't have a correct N14 and they don't have any Cat engines even tho' they want us to believe so. I also noticed is the Mack DM trucks listed as AMT and that's partly correct, but they were originally developed and issued by MPC and ERTL later bought the molds and issued them under the ERTL name, the latest issues has the AMT and MPC brand, it doesn't matter tho' as Round2 owns both the MPC and AMT brands now. The AMT Kenworth W925 listed as W923 wich it really is since the rear suspension was changed from torsion bar to walking beam, has the same NTA 370 engine as the K123 and not the NTC 350, the AMT Alaskan Hauler and T600 also has the NTA 370. The AMT Ford L-series kits has a Caterpillar 1145/1150/1160 called V175 and V225 by Ford wich can be modified to a 3208 with a V-style fuel pump. The AMT Peterbilt 359 California Hauler "small window" Unilite cab kit T500-500, T500, T522 and the latest AMT866 has the same Detroit Diesel 8V-71 like the 352, and the later 359 1100 Series cab kits T501 and T533 and all issues after that has the Cummins NTC 350. The Italeri Western Star trucks are a 4964 (also issued under Revell) and a Constellation, I'm no expert on Western Star but I can't find 4800 on any of Italeri boxes. You also missed the S-Series 2575 & 2674 kit's by Ertl which was started in 1977/78 Release's . Note the S-Series was known as the Springfield Special By most other IH truck Factories.... Another very slight detail on the IH 4070B Transtar II. In 79 IH extended the cabs a couple of inches. It wouldn't be noticed except they changed the rear grab handle and the cab around the sleeper vent is no longer recessed. So the kit only represents a 74-78. You have 1995 for the Italeri Western Star 4800 (really a 4964, or Classic, on later reissues) I’m not certain, but I believe that should be a decade or so earlier, correct? The original kit was released in 1989, according to scalemates. Also, for the Peterbilt 378, I remember Tim Ahlborn saying it could represent up to a 2002 model, the last year the DD series 60 was offered. But, I recall something also about the kit’s dash determining the model year up to the year 2000. Likewise, the 377 being a 1995-2000 representation. Subtle changes in '73 included new grill logo emblem ( old KW font logo with 4 bars changed to newer KW font logo with 3 bars) and lower door handles. lordairgtar Posted October 4, 2020 Share Posted October 4, 2020 I'd like to add a Japanese truck. The 1980s Mitsubishi Fuso. Made by Mitsuwa, although can be packaged as a Fujimi or Aoshima. The kit was newly tooled in 1981 so I assume it represents a early 80s or late 70s model. It sometimes comes as a tractor or a goods truck and although there is an engine, I can't verify the make and type. There is a auto transport trailer that sometimes is packaged with it. The Cummins NTC engines in some of the US kits are slightly modified to more resemble a N14 with air to air intercooler but are not correct by far and not usable as a N14 without more modifications in the head/valve cover area to look right. The Freightliner FLD 120 has updated rear suspension to the newer FAS II Airliner suspension but the older FAS Airliner suspension parts from the FLC are still in there. Revell Germany also has only two engines for their entire US truck kit line except for the reboxed Italeri kits, Cummins NTC475 Twin Turbo and Caterpillar 3408, and the Revell US has only the Caterpillar 3406 in 1:25 scale and 3408 for the 1:16 scale Edited October 11, 2020 by Force Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

From what I can tell the Volvo N10 is a 1980-90 and has a Volvo TD100 engine. The Peterbilt is a 359 and has a V8 engine, but I don't know what year it would be. Door handles replaced with lower flush type in 1980. GMC Astro introduced in 1969 used till 1987. Chevy Titan introduced in 1970 discontinued in 1980. Should we also add any 1/32 Model trucks such as Ertl's International 9670 and the Volvo Coca-Cola truck w/trailer, And then there are the Monogram/revell 1/32 trucks as well as the even smaller AMT trucks..
