CabDriver Posted October 8, 2020 Share Posted October 8, 2020 I got inspired to build a T Touring after seeing @tim boyd’s excellent box stock build of the old AMT kit on his Fotki page: Tim built a much older issue of this kit than I had here, so it has some different (cooler) parts than the later issue I had here, but I figured I could do something inspired by his example anyway. Having just moved and set up a new workshop here I wanted to do a nice simple box stock (ish) build for once, so here we are... Built the kit almost as AMT intended except for swapping out the tires for some parts-box ones, swapped the rear wheels for some chrome steelies (one of the kit ones was junk in the kit I ordered), wired the engine and painted some vertical flames inspired by an Indian Larry bike I saw earlier in the year. Not a super complex full-detail build, but this was super fun and just fell together! Love these old AMT kits - and they build up to a great looking model! While horizontal flames are suppose to make a car look like its moving even when its standing still, yours would give the opposite impression. I can’t take any credit for the flame idea, I’m sure it’s been done a bunch before, but this is where I got the idea: Mine aren’t as good as these, obviously...but I’d like to try them again now I know they (kinda) work on a car too! After years of mega detailing models I now prefer much simpler builds detailed with paint and built clean and crisp . . . you nailed it ! Still thinking of a colour combo for mine but hope to join the party soon.
