Heavy Haul Project

Recommended Posts

This is what I’ve called my Heavy Haul project that I started picking up the different kits and parts for over the last 5 years. The project is a Mack DM800 pulling a refinery vessel on 4 sets of Scheuerle 3 axle (lines) module transporters. The Mack is the MPC kit, 3 axle module transporters are from KFS and the refinery vessel was scratch built using Dan’s engineering design (40 years working in engineering and construction building refineries had some help). Started with the Scheuerle 3 axle module transporters and every piece has to have a lot trimmed off. There was a lot of measurements figured out to. The vessel is 67’ long with a 10’ diameter and a estimated weight of about 400 tons. There’s a full WIP in Model trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment.

Amazing build all the way around. Make sure you have all your permits in order before starting down the road with that beast. Excellent work! This was a pleasure to watch come together!

Thanks Brian. As for the permits the engineering company verifies that the route will be able to handle the load and start the hauling permit months before they hit the road.

All these pieces have not lost anything to wait, the final result is spectacular and I don't think of seeing another being built soon, very impressive!!!

Now you will have to park your car in the street... ?

Thanks Francis. Actually I just had my house built so it would fit inside.

Outstanding build, very well done!

Thanks Larry. It was a lot of fun to build and the most scratch building that I’ve ever done before.

That’s an impressive build. It’s great to see it finished. Takes up a lot of real estate, that’s for sure, but looks good doing it - that’s the important part.

Thanks Vincen.

Very impressive rig, Dan !!!

For all of you out there trying something similar (big), make sure you have the permission of your wife before staring down on the work bench :-)

That is a very impressive build! I like the display base as well. Where did you get the guard rails?

Thanks Jim the road sections are the old Italeri kits. It would be great if they would reissue these kits I would have to pick up at least 6 more of them.
