What Are Your Top Ten Kits?

Recommended Posts

The '55 to '57 Chevy and the late 60's Mustangs are in a few top tens here. I too really enjoyed building the '57 Chevy, and like the '62 Electra, I bought another. I haven't tried the newer moulding yet though. The Revell '69 Mustang Boss was also a delight to build and they looks so good. I tend to go for older tooling kits for their simplicity but so far of the modern tooling kits I've done, the Mustang, for me, has been the most enjoyable, but as Chris said... Subject to change, Prices and participation may vary. Void where prohibited. haha!

Steve

Ok... I’ll bite..LOL! Here are mine in no particular order I’d love to get another shot at building again from my youth years.

1 - MPC Dodge Off Road Camper with motorbike

2 - MPC Streaker Vette

3 - Great Street Machines Series kits

4 - MPC Warlock Dodge Truck

5 - MPC Smokey the Convoy Chaser and Force 440

6 - ‘77 Trans Am Blackbird (gold chrome)

7 - KISS Custom Van

8 - Monogram 1/48 scale B-52 Stratofortress Bomber (yeah this is a big bird with wingspan about 3 feet wide)

9 - Prehistoric Creatures Snap kits

10 - Famous Monsters Collection kits (Frankenstein, Wolfman, Creature from the Black Lagoon, Dracula, etc...

11 - SSlasher / Red Alert ‘72 Chevelle SS

12 - 1970 1/2 Baldwin Camaro

13 - Spirit of ‘57 Gasser

14 - Monogram Vandal/Vanbulance

15 - BJ and the Bear rig

Looks like my list continues beyond the Top 10 kits. As I’ve already mentioned - it’s hard to choose a Top 10 because all of those were from my youth/teen years. My guessimate is I’ve done at least 350 - 400 + kits during that span. Those I’d love to get another shot at building again.

My list as below,  in no particular order

- Aurora Porsche 904
There were some sink marks visible on the body, but overall they got it very right in proportions, stance etc
And the opening rear end fitted and worked very good

- Heller Porsche 917 John Wyer/ Gulf
Iconic car, looks quite ok, mostly logical build, sometimes a little fiddly, good moulding quality and detail

- Heller Ferrari 512
  See Porsche 917

- Heller Ferrari P3/P4
  See Porsche 917

- Heller Bentley Blower LeMans 1930
  See Porsche 917

- AMT AC Cobra as it was at the original release ca 1966
With appropriate halibrand kidney wheels, good set of decals etc
Went together without problems and looked quite right.
Recently built another one. Disappointment: in some areas inadequate presicion and moulding quality, instruction errors etc

- AMT Pontiac Bonneville hdtp 1963
My first 1/25 model, just loved it

- AMT Fold Falcon Futura Sprint 1964
Looked quite right despite some simplifications.
And decal error: Car from 1964 but decals from Monte Carlo Rally 1963

- AMT Chevrolet Bel Air 1962 Dave Strickler

- Monogram Packard Boat Tail Speedster

Have a few unbuilt and unfinished kits in the stash. The list may change.

Well they may not be for everyone but I've enjoyed building these kits since I've gotten back into the hobby the last two years.....

Monogram/Revell  Boss 302 or 429 '70 Mustang (wouldn't mind doing a Mach 1 either)

AMT '65 Pontiac Bonneville or 2+2 (basic AMT kit that assembles nicely)

Monogram '69 GTO (impressive looking body)

Monogram Malibu SS-454 (like the larger 1/24 scale)

AMT '70 Monte Carlo (despite a few challenges)

AMT '66 Buick Wildcat (another basic AMT kit)

Monogram Turbo Trans Am (looks great with the t-tops)

Revell '66 GTO (one of the most detailed kits I've done so far)

AMT '69 Buick Riviera (molded in chassis detail but I like taking the time to brush paint those types)

Revell '77 Monte Carlo (snap kit but a very nicely detailed kit of a subject I greatly admire)

In my collection I've yet to build the Revell '68-'69 Chevelle kits, and the Revell '69 Nova all of which are supposed to be great kits. I also have a number of the vintage Johan Cadillac models which I hope to be doing soon so that list could change.
