I picked up this Modelhaus 64 Dodge D100 SWB pickup a few months before they announced their retirement. The resin kit is ok, there will be some cleanup on this. It is inspired by Gas Monkey’s build from a few years ago - I want to keep mine all Mopar, the donor kit is the Lindberg 64 Dodge 330. What do you think? More to follow. carnut Posted November 11, 2020 Author Share Posted November 11, 2020 Update: I have been working on the chassis for a bit and I am surprised as to how well the Dodge 330 chassis fits up in the cab, with a bit of work. I measured the cab space and lined up everything and cut the chassis in half almost. The chassis width is a little smaller than the cab. So I added Evergreen strip styrene around the edges and everything looks good. I also cut out the inside well wells, but I’ll rebuild them later. I did make a goof, I went online and found out that the 330 is a unibody with subframes so I made frame extenders to tie it all in. I forgot about the torsion bars - so I drilled holes for those to mount up in the crossmember. I’ll redo the tranny mount later. Enjoy the photos, and keep smiling. I also have this Modelhaus kit but chose to build one entirely from scratch all styrene (maybe you have seen my thread already?). I made some modifications to the resin hood including the internal brackets but it did not fit my body well so I put it back in its original box, the kit will probably retain its value if no one else is making a new version of it, time will tell... It looks a bit ugly but it will do the job. It almost looks like something Roadkill would do, Ha ha ha. I’ve lined up a few of the other parts from the Dodge 330 kit. carnut Posted November 27, 2020 Author Share Posted November 27, 2020 Update: sorry it’s been awhile but I’ve been rather busy with another few model building projects. As you can see my planning and fabrication is paying off. The first photo is showing the D100 finally up on wheels, I have the stance I want but the wheels don’t really cut it for me. A very good friend of mine is 3D printing a set of wheels to go into a similar set of tires. Photo 2 is the 426 Max Wedge in the engine bay, with the headers from the Dodge 330 kit jut fitted in, they will work out just fine. Time to do a search for where the spark plugs go and drill some holes for plug wires. yes I do need to also address the missing inside fender wells and lower firewall. Lots more to do. cheers. carnut Posted December 20, 2020 Author Share Posted December 20, 2020 Update: Sorry to be late on this, I’ve been busy on other things. Some more of the major assemblies are done. The 426 Max Wedge is assembled and spark plug holes drilled, long tube headers are built and yes they will fit. I took the donor kit’s inside wheel wells and trimmed them to fit inside the engine bay- yes they fit like a glove. Lastly I did have to make some inside fender pieces, the resin body firewall leaves a huge gap. I’ll be gluing these in during the assembly later. Time to start thinking of colors to paint. I had to spend today making the truck bed floor. I took the resin bed floor and cut it up to fit the tubs and such in the back, next I cut a fresh sheet of Evergreen 040 to size. The fit is okay but not the greatest. I may need to redo it. Got to think it over. Things are moving ahead, soon to start thinking about paint colors. I’ve been kind of held up waiting for some custom wheels to come in and they have not yet so I need to contact the person who’s 3-D printing a set for me and see what’s going on. carnut Posted August 2, 2021 Author Share Posted August 2, 2021 (edited) An update on the Dodge D100: I had to do some more work on the chassis frame and so I cut out the donor kit molded in gas tank and I replaced it with some Evergreen sheet styrene cut to fill the hole I cut. The plan is to build a new gas tank. Also what I’ve been waiting for has finally come in. A friend of mine offered to 3-D print some Hillebrand‘s for this project and I can’t wait to put them on. It looks like I’ve got everything now set to finish this off hopefully. The next thing to decide is what color to paint this I’ve been thinking of a two-tone bronze and root beer brown but now I’m starting to think of doing a weathered paint job on it kinda like Roadkill. Here is the current status: I’ve got most everything ready but now I’ve had to start scratch building-kit bash an exhaust system. I have been thinking of a two-tone root beer and bronze, but now I’m having second thoughts. My brother in-law suggested a Dodge light blue which was popular - maybe a bit faded? Any ideas??
