Today I wanted to focus on the discharge chutes.  Their an enormous focal point on the snowblower w linkages and brackets going every direction.  The chute " leaves " as their actually called have  ribs ( not the KC yummy kind) and welded stiffening plates all around.

I first double walled all the outer shell to strengthen it up, I originally made it scale thickness but had to fatten it up to avoid damage . Then working front to back adding plates and thin ribs .20201231_214332.thumb.jpg.18e744e59a424fdaaef0bf8ba4d7e2f0.jpg

I spotted a glitch during construction w angle of the long channel, I mounted it too flat. The brace points about 45 degrees when leaves are stored. Trimming the section away and adjusting the angle had everything lining up.

That putty mess was needed when the glue melted dips in plastic from my new clamps..oops

One last part the squirrels made for me was the bank cutter flap support  bar . This rod attaches to a small ram adjusting the angle of the cutters while clearing snow .

Thanks Charles !  I've been very focused on completing this,  even though there's days the squirrels nearly derail me lol

Awesome scratch building Jeff. Looks like you need one or more of these blowers now with the weather you guys are having this year.

Wrapped up the chutes finally, several things I'd done differently but its assembled.  Tossed together the bank cutters w fake hinge and decided to mock everything up w the RM .

Just picked up the paint , chrome yellow overall w blue rear warning stripes.  The hood will be anti glare flat black,  drivers gotta see where he's driving with all that snow flying  !!!

Enjoy ! 20210102_184339.thumb.jpg.44af28cdced7b99eea3dc5b9029dbfa8.jpg

That's a lot of great work, Jeff.  makes that Mack cab look pretty insignificant.  Three tiers of springs on the back end?  Or is what appears to be springs on the bottom like radius rods that keep the axle where it should be?  What kind of load were they carrying weight wise?

Thanks  !  It's starting to be difficult to work around now all the bracing is going on before paint ..

The rear springs  have a radius rod type bar id assume is to keep axle centered .  I got them from Dave Natale specific for this build . The trucks typically had a Cat bulldozer engine to power the blower unit , D 348 possibly.  Theres a large rear mounted radiator also.

Thanks , its definitely starting to look like a snowblower now instead of a huge pile of random parts..

Tonite I had a few spare minutes so I cleaned up the augers . Our 4 yr old said " it doesn't have teeth like Bumble ..did Hermie take his teeth out too ? She watches Rudolf too much . Well now it has the teeth ! 20210106_202552.thumb.jpg.6ec20435e5a910e38be0eecfe975683f.jpg

I may add some meng bolts later

This weekend I decided the rest of the truck needed some attention,  work started on the blower engine compartment.  Theres a large rear facing radiator so out came the dremel to remove the panel. I cleaned up opening then framed in w angle . Later ill fill it  w a  expanded metal screen . I still plan to blank off the back to avoid see thru

20210108_230050.thumb.jpg.d9a5d52c4a39e2b37a5024ec9af2f622.jpg

Doors, drip rails were added along w meng detail bolts . Then some scrap Pe handles were attached

20210109_123348.thumb.jpg.df4916953cdda44a955fea8ac1f94930.jpg

I rebuilt the frame for the boxes after a photo showed its c channel not I beam , so a quick rebuild i added the welded braces w more meng bolts.  Next up will be the frame bracing for expanded metal walkway, and rear bulkhead . Another necessary mockup was in order .

Everyone suggested the truck should have tire chains so I added that to list ....squirrels lol

Playoffs were on..so I headed to the bench for more build time ! Built up a set of walkway hangers based off photos I took a few days ago. I'd wished now I'd taken a quick measurement but eye balling this one . Couple triangle braces , u channel in center w angle extensions ..typical Oshkosh fabrication built heavy

Kept looking at photos , and wanted to try building a rain cap on the blower engine exhaust stack..

Hahhaha yeah sometimes my ocd kicks in and ill try adding everything.  Years of building armor was root cause , some call it rivet counting

My squirrels..whoa they are well fed around here , luckily I'm staying the course w this

Cant believe they made it , almost blew it there in the end . I'm actually a Saints fan so today is our game ..who knows how fate will play out

While I like multiple teams for different reasons,  my main one is Seattle...and it was difficult watching them loose to a one armed quarterback at home. 🙄

You have really put done yourself on this one! Looks amazing! Excellent work!

Thanks , its not very often when building a large project like this that I don't get burned out with the work load . This build has been very enjoyable.  Taking photos and reproducing them into a model I can touch and see has really kept me motivated.

Well I started adding the auger bolts, glad I have a  magnifying light on the bench cause they are tiny! Meng calls them 0.8

Tidied up more of the chassis stuff, added rear brake drums from kfs and attached the fuel tank..its getting difficult to work around now and not break something 20210112_190928.thumb.jpg.34e4aab11bac507114938756ab7656ca.jpg
