Painted Black
Got started on a new project over the weekend, starting with a well used AMT body and frame, Got the body cleaned up and drilled some "air" holes in the trunk lid, fresh coat of primer, also remove the extra material around the cowl. Tried out a set of wheels and tires that look pretty good to me. Engine will be a blown FE set back about half way thru the body... Stay toon!! IIRC the max engine setback for an Altered was 25% of wheelbase.

Painted Black
Got a little time in on this yesterday, built the engine mounts and installed the floor pan. Today I hope to get the push bar fabbed and installed, and maybe get the solid rear axle mounts built. Thanks for looking..

Some of those cars engines were back a good bit. Those guys were masters of finding ways to bend the rules back then. Your build looks great. You can go from wrong to correct, just by changing the class designation. ?

I thought the Altered class fell under the "comp" category. https://www.nhra.com/nhra-101/drag-racing-classes
Straightliner59
Well, yes, but, as a sub class. Comp coupes and roadsters were also in "Competition", but weren't subjected to the 25% engine setback rule. That's why you see many of those built on dragster chassis. My point was that alot of those cars were not 100% built by a rulebook, those guys were masters at bending the rules like Smokey yunick who was probably the best at it. You are correct a different class can change everything. Edited November 26, 2020 by Scott8950
