Today I made a few mods to the dash so i can get working on improving the cage. There were some switches but they had a lot of flash and a sinkmark in the middle, so to rectify this i filed the entire panel flat and used some rod and tubeto add them back. I've left them long until the glue sets and will be cutting them down. I also had the problem of no decals for the gagues so I've cut down a sun visor tv to fit and will be using any decals I find in the leftovers box. The modded sun visor is in both pics. I will also be adding one to the passenger side with other decals.

Nice work--looking forward to seeing that finished. Drive on! B)

Stupidbird's bodywork is done (I hope), so it gets its dark panel line pre-wash.

And then its first coat of primer. Shown sitting on a chassis borrowed from the glue bomb stocker that came in the same deal (background). I'm pretty pleased with how the "fixed" nose and the cowl joints came out.

Taping things together to get an idea of what direction to take. If I can remove the hood bulge, I think the driver can see over the cowl. Tinted windows is a must. Not sure what to do with that Shelby valance. Maybe suck it up tight to the body...

Hey, can a guy change his mind?

Hey Sam with a Subie picture icon, I see where you're going.....  been there done that but with a mid engine car to begin with.  Look forward to watching your project.

I see discussion about the roll cage, trying to make it less obvious.  I haven't gotten that far, but was considering darkening the windows.  I never had success with the Tamiya smoke, was thinking of trying Scale Motorsports carbon pattern decal that is only the black weave on clear background, something unusual but might be more effective.  The race seats are another tipoff.  This car has a race instrument pod that is over the stock gauge hood, plan to ditch that so it will have a speedometer.  ?  Since it's a small car, the trunk will be filled with a fuel tank (cheating with the filler on the deck lid) and spare, so it will have a modified Thule cargo box, with one of the rally lights.  Yea those aren't street legal, that's why it will be retractible.  I'm planning to have CB and scanner antennas mounted up there, that will retract horizontal when going through cities.  Also considering a telescope with a screen for the co-pilot, similar to what These Guys Just Drove an E63 AMG Across America in a Record 27 Hours 25 Minutes tried (5th picture down).

I look forward to weathering, like it went through a thousand miles of bad weather.

Read it, very interesting.

He used the words "illegal," "criminal" and "felon" so often it was over-the-top. I started wondering if he were using them satirically or ironically--or perhaps JUST so the website/publication couldn't be accused of condoning or encouraging the activity in any way, just for legal/liability reasons.

You know how that works!  Especially after Jan. 7 events.

I've hit a small problem with my progress on the cage. I was well on with one side only to run out of the rod. I was certain I had another pack of it but when i pulled it out it was a smaller diameter so I've ordered a load more and hopefully it doesn't take long to arrive. This is as far as I got today

The ebay fairy dropped of my entry this afternoon, the Revell SCCA Mustang. I'm going to change out the v8 for a Cosworth 4 cylinder from the GTP Mustang for fuel economy, rearrange the interior to make room for a passenger, and hopefully add the stock headlights from the 90 LX kit. I think I'll add some exterior mirrors as well.

Haven’t made much progress on the GTO but I did order a couple clearly scale LS engines that I’m going to rob the supercharger off one of them for the NASCAR engine so I should have over 1000 hp at my disposal. A12DF0F6-0978-4B52-985E-693DDC1F80E7.jpeg.bae479755da97f1ca5df30c0db746410.jpeg

I have also been messing around with the interior and have decided to delete the NASCAR roll cage and will be doing a simple 5 point roll cage with the gto dash and two bucket seats from the parts box.

I wonder if that chassis would fit under a Lindberg '80 Mustang Cobra body? Hmmmmmm....

The track width on this kit is about six inches wider than a stock Mustang. You'd have to narrow the chassis plate and the track width plus rework the exhaust. It could be done but isn't for the faint of heart.

Spent a good while reading through this and seeing what everyone else is up to. I have a few race/rally car kits that will never get built that way (as much as anything I don't enjoy decal work) so this CBP is right up my street.

I'll wander out to the shed later and ponder what options I have.

OK, had fun this afternoon rummaging through a load of boxes, seeing what competition cars I had and which would be suitable for this. After many, many options and combinations were considered, including older Skylines, Laurels and even a 720 truck, this is what I'm looking at, hope it meets the rules.....

IMG_5358.JPG.21b6b81f084eb94e20219faf7604b25e.JPG

Definitely a racecar, but even painted a suitably discreet colour and with no logos a Skyline is still going to be rather obvious.

IMG_5350.JPG.68e084f77669ce44ef7d0a672353ee1e.JPG

So, I'll drop this Nissan Leopard bodyshell onto it.

IMG_5360.JPG.251fc052b4b8ba14d63cea5b14926ae1.JPG

It fits remarkably well, as I found when I put it onto the chassis of a previously built Skyline GT-R road car. The Leopard's long nose was intended to take a straight-six from the outset and the wheelbase was just 10mm different, and it's wide enough that I should be able to get some decent wheels and tyres under it without arch flares.

Needs a bit of trimming at the front end to get it sitting properly, but with the generous front overhang I'll have ample room for the intercooler in front of the radiator. The Skyline's competition spec RB26 engine already includes some engine mod's over the road car's unit and a purposeful side exit exhaust, and I've found some other upgrade parts in another Skyline kit. I could even invest in some aftermarket monster turbos. A Group N spec Skyline apparently gives around 400hp compared to the road car's 280 to 320-ish, but these things can be tuned up to 1000-odd with the right combination of parts. 4wd and big brakes should keep it on the road.

Ideally I hope to use the Skyline's interior which will allow me to use some of the cage (hopefully hidden by those chunky pillars), but with side panels from the Leopard

I'll paint it a suitably discreet colour, and with its generic early '80s personal luxury car looks I'm hoping it won't draw attention to itself.

I have several of these Leopard kits and it's good to have an excuse to do something silly with one of them.

They do another version of it as well:

Only real difference is the twin rectangular headlamps and alternative grille, but I thought I'd go for the sloping units which might be a touch more aerodynamic. I've got a third one bought assembled but unpainted, and another one from another maker.

Look forward to seeing your Escort progress.

I watched a movie last night called Like A Boss and the first thing I noticed was this 80's Toyota the two main characters were driving. It was red so maybe that's why it stuck out, or the fact that it's in really good shape for an old car in a movie from 2020.

I like the Nissan, the lines are neat and it's a cool looking inception.

Looks good, I'd certainly notice one of those! Wouldn't necessarily think it capable of doing 150mph+ however, I'm hoping it'd be the same for my Leopard.

Fingers crossed my build will do it justice. I've deliberately chosen something that won't require too much scratchbuilding or complicated merging between the two kits.

Might try another one or two things later in the year, it's a theme I've had in mind for several kits as pure competition cars aren't really my thing.

Yeah, I'm starting to lose hope on my own 4 kits I ordered on the 29th... EEEE!

So here's an update just for anyone shopping online? You may want to avoid buying from Jocorzol.com  ????

The tracking # suggests that it was delivered to the porch on the 30th... despite the fact the order date was 7:40 PM on the 29th... and it was coming from China? So Less than 24 hrs it was delivered????also it was shipped to Washington NC... I live in Staunton Va. Oh and one more thing, the invoice claims I ordered it on Dec 6th even though I really ordered it on the 29th of December... I'm skeptical lol...
