I have a target of 12 completed models a year so to complete 20 plastic kits ( and one diecast) makes me happy. Some were old or older builds but most were relatively new. Not travelling for work so much because of COVID restrictions definitely gave me more bench time than usual. First up are the hot rods. Some of these haven't been see here yet because they haven't been featured in my monthly magazine column for Australian Street Rodding yet so think of these as a sneak preview for later. I didn't set out to build heaps of Model Ts but turns out that's what happened! The builds are as follows AMT 1923 ford t roadster Pyro 1/16 scale Tee N T AMT 25 T bucket AMT 25 T rolling chassis MPC Vending machine show rod AMT 27 T Touring Revell 1930 A coupe AMT 1932 Custom Tudor AMT 1934 Ford Towtruck Monogram 1/24th 32 Full fendered Roadster Monogram 1/20th 32 Sports Coupe Matchbox 33 Plymouth Sedan diecast 1/64th scale converted to 5 window coupe Monogram 1/24th scale 32 hiboy Thanks to all the great hot rod modellers out there who have made this year a great one for the hobby. The AMT 25T and AMT T-Phaeton especially pushed my buttons. The dirtrackers was not something I recalled you did, but the Valiant caght my eye, there, as did the Monogram midget. I forgot to put up this shot of a partsbox.com dodgem car so I will add that now. Yep, it was a terrific year for me - I just seemed to be on a roll and didn't strike any insurmountable problems. Mind you, a lot of them were fairly straight forward builds but there are a few very hard core, bordering on scratchbuilt models planned for 2021 so I may not manage this output this year. We will see! All in all, 2020 seems to be a record year for may members here. I've loved every minute of it. Bernard, I have been a speedway nut since I was a little kid. Never did build a real speedway car, but I did have a very illustrious career in the early eighties, running third place in exactly two (2) mechanics races in the far north towns of Tom Price ( yep, name of a town) and Paraburdoo. Yep, two races, two thirds, what a legend. Let's just say the guys behind me were bigger chickens than I was! I have about 60 built dirt trackers in my collection and many more planned but my duties as a model columnist for Australian Street Rodding have kept me rather focussed on hot rods in recent years. Bruce, I'm glad you noticed the rolling chassis. All the parts were just lying in front of me while I was building the other Model Ts so I just whacked them together, shot the whole thing in flat black and then added some washes. It was probably built in one hour total, just for giggles. And Tom, Tom, Tom, it is high time you just had a nice cold cup of concrete and hardened up! You are not a real man until you have tackled a Jaymar fibreglass body. C'mon, I dare you! I want to see that thing done, as a dirt track racer to compete against mine, by NYE2021. I've enjoyed seeing some of them come together on your WIP threads here, the Valiant was the most challenging? The finished result was worthwhile, it looks very effective. The blue AMT '32 is probably my favourite and I like all of the speedway racers. They remind me of what was raced here as stock cars and hot rods on the 1/4-mile oval tracks (shale, tarmac or concrete). alan barton Posted January 4, 2021 Author Share Posted January 4, 2021 Thank you guys - it is nice to hear compliments from your peers, even if you are unlikely to ever meet them in the flesh ( I have met Tim and Tom and we certainly had some stories to tell!). At lunch today, back at work after the break, i realised that I had my last two models photographed and could have had them u on New Year's Eve - it says a lot for an aging memory, huh? The plane, one of only wo I have built in my life, is the Lindberg 1/28th???? Gee Bee racer and I still need to apply decals to the Stoned Hoods and Crooks Willys.
