Dr Simione would probably know - but I don’t live in Philly - I would want to know if the Simione car ran the Salt Lake trial with jacks …. I never really thought to re-post the parts pics from page one to show which parts were currently being used, so I’m doing it here. ...I’ll give Jhedir6 (David) the nod for that idea👍 Installing the headers was a tad bit fussy, but actually easier than expected. For me, they fit so snugly that they held themselves in place without any glue at all. The side pipes along the body panel have two nubs that fit into the holes in the body which also were not glued. There are P/E metal straps that will wrap around the side pipes and hold them secure to the body- those pieces will be glued. I did glue the foremost header on each side just to add some rigidity. The foot boxes fit so snugly between the firewall and headers that I thought they were going to be a nightmare. I did have to do a tiny amount of X-acto work on one of them so that it could sit straight, but otherwise they were quite painless getting into place. Absmiami.... I did not have to curse your name after all.... The steering shaft was tricky and needed some trimming to fit, but I was able to get it in place on the 12th try.... escaping 13 by a hair.😅 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Venom Posted October 11, 2021 Author Share Posted October 11, 2021 (edited) Having some trouble getting the hood installed properly. The front chassis brace (part 6D) which I already had glued in place snapped when I tried to remove it. The part has to be flawlessly positioned and cemented in order to have any hope of the hood opening and closing with accuracy since it’s what the hood hinge brackets ride on. Since the part is broken and unusable, I have ordered a replacement part.... I’m hoping to only have to post one or two more segments before calling this WIP done.... Rex, I will be taking it offline after the next post or two so that I can focus on all the many little details. Since I was doing this WIP as an aid to those who wish to build it, most of the tricky things are now finished, except the hood, which I may only partially show in the WIP. Most everything that’s left, as far as kit parts are concerned, are pretty easy to figure out from here on out, but a couple more posts may be needed. Most further additions to the kit, if one desired to, would have to be scratch built and I do not wish to bore everyone with all the fussy little details, including decals that I plan to add. After I get everything done I will still need time to get photos completed for the “Under Glass” section, so don’t be expecting finished pics anytime soon. This has been the most challenging, patience requiring modeling project I’ve ever gotten into so far. Very different from what I’m used to. Doing a WIP online has been an experience in itself. ...I just went onto modelbuilderswh.com and checked out the Ferrari P4 engine kit you mentioned and it is very impressive. Although there is still more work to be done, I will be finishing it up offline. I have shown all of the major build segments for this kit. What is left is mostly smaller details such as gluing headlight lenses into place and extra details such as engine compartment additions which would be up to the builder. ***This last post involves the hood/bonnet fit to the body along with the front chassis brace which it connects to in order to pivot upon for the opening and closing of the hood. I will simply say that this is a seriously problematic fitting issue. I tried to conquer this issue in my own way which wasn’t entirely successful. I wound up with a hood that can be propped open and can be placed in a relatively acceptable closed position, but in order to achieve this I had to render the hood hinge mechanism useless... In other words, it’s either opened or it’s closed.. there is no working hinge. I added photos to sum up the work I did as best as possible, but in trying to explain any kind of step by step process for getting a good hood fit, I find it basically impossible. If you build this kit you will simply have to cross that bridge when you get to it, but definitely expect serious difficulty here. One thing I can add is that the front brace will likely be slightly warped and it will snap very easily if you try and bend it. If you need to reshape it you can heat some water up in a microwave, but not overly hot or boiling. Keep cold water running on the side so that after you dip it in the hot water for about 3 seconds, you can quickly set it by running it under the cold water. The resin is surprisingly easy to manipulate this way. I used this method to slightly tweak the hood and the rear window also. Id like to thank everyone who followed along for your kind comments and interest as well as those who shared valuable, hard to find photos. Everyone’s contributions during this WIP are greatly appreciated! I hope people who plan to build this kit will find this WIP useful along with the kit’s instructions.... I will be posting this in the “Under Glass” section as soon as it is finished and I have time for photos. I have had a few models that you either have to pose it with hood open or not use the hinges at all, because they actually do not work. I did consider trimming it, but opted against it for fear of altering its appearance too much. The actual hinge hooks were binding between the radiator and the brace, so that’s why I trimmed them off. I tried to re-fabricate the hooks with wire, but it didn’t help. I did also trim the bottom lip edge off the radiator itself hoping it would allow things to settle down toward the brace more, but that also didn’t help.
