crossfire 2004 Posted January 13, 2021 Share Posted January 13, 2021 After seeing a shot of this roadster on a FB forum, I knew that I’d found the basis of my next build. I’ve only managed to come up with a few more pictures despite contacting the owner in Sweden who failed to reply, so some of the build will be total guess work. Here’s where I reached so far, Revell ‘32 roadster body with louvered deck lid from the 5 window and hood from an AMT deuce. Revell chassis, engine and rear end, rolled rear pan from a ‘51 Chevy rear seat, Parts Box resin straight axle with transverse spring from the Mod Rod. Hilborn injection manifold with metal stacks and home made headers. Maybe try achieving the finish before stripping the chrome first, maybe try a dull clear coat. Then strip the chrome if that doesn't work. These drag racing "Street Roadsters" were actually pretty popular in 1960's drag racing, but didn't get a lot of magazine coverage back then and are thus pretty much unknown topics today. Which makes them all the more interesting as model car subjects. Looks like you are off to a great start; will be watching for your progress. I have no idea to be honest Snake, the car is in Sweden and the owner’s English is only slightly better than my non existent Swedish. Of course, those very exact fenders needed for a class legal SR (cycle fenders in front, cut down factory fenders in the rear) are in Revell's '32 Ford "Rat Roaster" kit and are an easy swap for kitbashers.... Force Posted January 16, 2021 Share Posted January 16, 2021 (edited) I'm not sure who owns it now but I know the guy who built "Bone Shaker" back in 2007-2008, he lives in a town called Piteå 130 miles north of where I live, and the president of my car club did all the lettering , gold flake accents and pinstriping down in our club garage, so I saw it a lot back then. I have no idea how I’ll reproduce the lettering, just trying to build something resembling the car is tough enough. The car is all done as you see it on the pictures, the class designation can be wrong, I haven't read the rules for SR so I don't know what was required by the rules to run in the class...so you can be right on that. Yes this is the builders Willys race car for the EDRS Pro Street class and he built that from scratch too with an English fiberglass body...a bad one might I add, it's so nice and it was built some years before the Roadster, the president of my car club did the flames and lettering on this car too. The engine in the car now is a blown Arias Hemi on alcohol so it's changed from the picture above when it had a blown Chevy Big Block, he also had to add a rear wing to stabilize the car because it was a thrill to drive at high speeds without it, the wheels are also changed since this picture was taken. The Roadster he built all by himself from scratch so it's for sure not an old "survivor" and was built mostly for fun, but most of the parts are old period stuff he collected for the build, and it has never been raced as far as I know. I don't know if it's the same Mikael but my friends name (the builder) is Mikael and I don't know if he still have it, because I know he had it up for sale a while after he finished it in 2009 and I'm not sure if he sold it, I haven't seen it in many years so I have to ask him next time I see him. Everything is hand lettered with paint and brushes, and some silver leaf and as I said, done by the president of my car club Nailheads Rod & Rebuilt. By the way, Mikael stands at the right behind the car on the first of my pictures with his back towards me in the black shirt with the white print on it. Mikael is an outstanding car builder and has an eye for details and what looks right, he has built many nice cars over the years. Stuart, I'm not sure he does because as I said, I have not seen it for quite some time now. TIM Tim, It's the president of my car club who did the flames, pinstriping and lettering on the Willys and the lettering, pinstriping and gold flake on the Roadster, and it's a bit fun because his name is also Micael...spelled a bit different but the same name as the builder of both the Roadster and the Willys. Here is Micael's 1961 Oldsmobile taken at a Wednesday evening coffee meet at the Museum in our town, he painted in with a lot of different techniques and different paints like pearl, metal flake, lace painting, gold leaf, the pinstriping and other stuff and did everything at home in his own garage. By the way, he doesn't do this for a living, he is a certified electrician and is a high school teacher for electricians now, so does this on his free time. That thing is sweet! Paul Paul, I agree! 100 pro. So many 41 Willys kits can be seen, no one puts it down in the weeds, so low and nasty looking! Fat tires in the fenders too.
