I don't know if I should brag or hang my head in shame but yes sir .....I did Tom. The outcome is that I DID get a kit that I've been wanting for a loooooooooooooooooong time.

Congrats...I’m glad you won it. They are getting really high in price. When I bought mine I thought about hanging my head also... lol. Like I said earlier, I’d really like to find a less expensive Maverick kit, instead of hacking into the rare FC kit. Mine is still sealed inside. I’ll bet if that box was in nice shape, it would have went for more. So it’s a win for you.

Someone needs to cast that grille without the park lamps......

Your comment got me to thinking about the blank grill so i checked my 2 johan rebuilders and this is what i found. 1 with the lamps and 1 blank grill. Both cars are the johan pro stock mavericks "Tinker's Toy" so i wonder why  the grills are different?

Isn’t the top grill with the markers a Comet grill?? I know the Maverick had them too since 71.

No it's a maverick grill.. Here is a comet grill vs maverick grill. The grill with no markers is probably from a 70 promo maverick and was swapped onto the johan at some point..

From what I’ve been able to sort out, the grill without the turn signals was on the promos and the stock version with the bench seat. The turn signal grill is the Maverick Grabber Pro stock and Funny Car versions.

I was searching around myself and i believe you are correct because while digging through my maverick parts today i noticed i have a standard promo style  maverick interior with bench seat.

The Fast Eddie Schartman Maverick C-103 had the grill without lights as well. As far as I know it is the only drag version of the Maverick to have this grill. Pics stolen from the web.

Looks like Spyder wheels and another version of the hood scoop also.

I've missed all this commentary so I apologize for not getting back with you guys. I actually acquired the Jo-Han stock Maverick kit which has the blank grille as well.  Interesting about Fast Eddie's kit. And here I thought that all these drag kits came with the turn signals in the grille.

Yes, it has Spyder wheels (different depth front and rear). The hood scoop is smaller than on later versions of the Maverick or Comet and is molded to the hood, not separate.

If someone has a spare single rear Spyder wheel from that kit or a complete set please send me a PM. On mine the delicate outer rim is partially broken and missing. I know that these were available in several AMT and MPC kits as well, but I want to replace it with the correct part. Thanks!

Not trying to hijack your thread Joe, but I finally won a Maverick builder on the bay. I also bought the Platt and Nicholson decals from Slixx. Your other Maverick build gave me an itch to do something like this. Just looking for a Mustang Shelby donor chassis now.

I'll say this.....it's going to be like trying to find a needle in a haystack to procure one of those things but I'll keep my eye out for one Jens.

That's awesome Tom!! I'll be looking forward to seeing your take on one of these. If you need any help in regards to the build lemme know. I went to Hell and back with mine. lol

Just so you know....I haven't totally disappeared from the forums. Just got ALOT of changes at work and some of 'em are requiring alot of patience to get through. The last few weeks have not been kind to me in that regard but there's some funky stuff goin' on in the ol' back room politikin' area. Additionally I've taken on another WWII warbird build. Been a long time since I've dabbled in that area but it feels good. Will be back on this one when I finish with the aircraft build.....which is goin' on in the "All The Rest WIP" section of this forum if you wanna check it out.

That would be great, Joe. Thanks! Here's a pic of my defect rear rim for identification.

I have these.......they look deeper than yours. There yours if you want them.

Thanks for your offer, Roger. These look like MPC parts to me. I have several of these (and some AMTs). I'd love to find a correct Johan wheel. Aside from a slightly different design, Johan wheels are most always a bit smaller in diameter. Thanks again, Jens

So Joe, the NHRA has sold Atlanta Dragway, and this weekend is the last race there. I went today and I found this in the pits and took some shots for you.

Ok folks......I'm gonna do it again.....only this time I don't think it's gonna take me a frickin' year to build it.

I had a really good time with my Dyno Don Maverick build. True....there were some trying times involved but I think I've my process down on these cars now. I have another Jo-Han Maverick in the stash in glue bomb form. I found a spare unpainted body and hood on ebay so I picked it up so I could at least start fresh. I'm currently working on a 1/48 Messerschmitt Me-262 over in the "All The Rest" section here but am starting this thread and gathering parts along the way. One of the things that I DON'T have for this build is a suitable glass assy so I'll be looking for one of those. I was hoping to build a 429 car but Hubert Platt's Maverick reached out and grabbed my attention and it is equipped with a SOHC motor so......we'll be going with another one of those. My other hang up is that I only have a few reference photos for this car and would like some more references. If anybody has any I'd sure appreciate any help I could get in replicating this car.

I received the decal sheet yesterday in the mail:

The reference shots that I do have :
