Lamborghini Veneno

Hi all :)

Already while working on my Ferrari 488 Spider I started work on the Lamborghini Veneno by Fujimi. I will also use the PE set from Hobby Design.

First I started with the brake discs from the PE set and painted the rims

_DSC5014_20210208_mbk.jpg.cfecc5fae370d771096089986545209a.jpg

Then I assembled the body as far as I could. The engine hood is only put on top without glueing yet. But nevertheless I assembled too much for the engine to be inserted. Luckily that is not such a tragedy because on one hand the engine consists of one single piece which is more like a relief and on the other hand you hardly can't see anything through the narrow vents in the hood. And as I planned to glue the hood in place anyway I will just cut the engine in two pieces and insert as much as possible, so that you can see from the outside that there seems to be something inside ;)

_DSC5029_20210223_mbk.jpg.6dd2e0c4714bf27d291956d828edbe3f.jpg

The main part of the work so far has been making stencils for the carbon decals and applying them. As I was afraid to rip off the textured paint when masking it to clear coat the carbon decals I decided to first apply the decals, then clear coat and apply the textured paint last. To clear coat I used AK's Gauzy Agent Shine Enhancer, which was dry to the bone after only about 10 minutes. So I took the risk to mask it after only one hour drying time and apply the textured paint over it. As you can see, everything worked fine (beside of the spots around the air vents in the dashboard, where I masked off too much).

Hi all :)

It's been quite a while since I opened this WIP. Unfortunately there is still not too much progress to show you. In the last few weeks I painted the body, stripped the paint because I noticed some scratches in the body I didn't see beforehand. The main part of my building time was eaten up by making stencils for the carbon decals, cutting the decals out and applying them.

But let me show you the progress I made so far:

The cast on switches at the center console had been removed and will be replaced by some 3rd party switches. First of all it was easier to paint them and second it's now possible to show one switch open. Yesterday the center console got some detail painting and its decals
_DSC5129_20210508_mbk.jpg.9e8a158c337cb1f19cfbc41a7e9426cd.jpg

The dashboard got its gauge decal too
_DSC5130_20210508_mbk.jpg.4c447553c09d364ce8dcbe7af40adb6a.jpg

Today all body carbon parts have received their clearcoat (Zero Paints' 2K Semi Gloss Clear). Representative for this I'll show you one of the side skirts
_DSC5131_20210508_mbk.jpg.063a96d0000a32d8af35c5eb3bdf8366.jpg

Finally the body has been repainted but not yet clear coated. After clearcoatig I will add some semi-gloss black in the area right behind the doors below the sharp bend.
_DSC5132_20210508_mbk.jpg.28c7e277b9895b2517f837118210220f.jpg

That's all for today. I hope you won't have to wait as long for the next update as this time.

Looking good so far!

Love that red.  Good luck with the clear too.   cheers, tim

Thank you. The clear will still have to wait for a while until I'm finished with the preparation of all the body parts.

Thank you. I hope to do Tony Stark justice with the build of this Lambo. Initially the idea for this painting came up about one year ago when my son was in his Ironman-phase :D

Great progress so far!

Thank you too.

This week I made some progress on my Veneno. Mainly with the interior parts.

First the middle console received its resin switches
_DSC5140_20210514_mbk.jpg.1349fd23ab675c22203446d46ed466ab.jpg

For the dashboard I cut a cover for the speedo from some transparent sheet (here still covered with some Tamiya tape to protect it from scratches)
_DSC5139_20210514_mbk.jpg.0ad80be217e632fe2dbbacb5c3b447fd.jpg

and now with the cover attached. To glue it I used Ultra Glue by mig, which dries completely transparent and gives a quite strong bond but leaves you enough time to position the parts.
_DSC5142_20210516_mbk.jpg.dbc20ff7fb325d1f2e35b2e736f88f1c.jpg

After that the interior got some PE parts
_DSC5141_20210516_mbk.jpg.3b5a4a5d69feed7643b399a881772c36.jpg

To finish it up here a picture of a dry fit of all the interior parts already ready to assemble. There are still some  pads missing at the center console which I first have to complete detailing.
_DSC5144_20210516_mbk.jpg.5686456e82d5aeda62b9c2daf1da65b8.jpg

After that the rims got some detail painting and PE parts. Now they only need their decals and a cover up with some clear coat.
_DSC5143_20210516_mbk.jpg.70e681a2809df0887d5aad91c105b513.jpg

Today I attached the rear wheel arches and two parts at the back.
_DSC5145_20210516_mbk.jpg.9c857295e1c961f16031425ecb50c1b4.jpg

That's all for this week. I wish you a good start into the new week.

Hi all :)

Time for the next (and possibly the last) update. It could be the last update because I'm thinking about aborting this build because too much didn't turn out the way I wanted it. And as I am working on this kit for too long already, I don't know whether I would continue somewhen in future if I just put it back on the shelf.

But let's start with the thing that went well this last week: the decals on the center of the rims. Now the rims only need some clear coat to be finished. The plan was to clearcoat them together with the body. Yesterday I noticed that the red on the bonnet was way darker than on the rest of the body, so the bonnet will be stripped for the second time...Â đŸ˜’
_DSC5147_20210524_mbk.jpg.f46a0f409a2e3eccffaee6dce31999ef.jpg

Then I applied the decals on the tires. In addition to the writings there should be two thin red arcs on each tire. When applying them, the second arc was already wrapped around the tip of the brush unsavably, so I decided to leave them away completely. After a few days I clear coated the tires with some matt varnish by Vallejo to seal them in. Right after applying the clear I could watch the decals wrapping up and separating from the tires...Â đŸ˜¡
_DSC5150_20210524_mbk.jpg.8ea95b3c3da3716752ecc8039e3c59a9.jpg

My plan now is to strip the bonnet from the paint, repaint it and decide afterwards whether I will continue or get rid of this Lambo. Somehow it has never been a real fun build so far and I don't suppose that to change in future.

Hi all :)

As you can see, I didn't give up on the Veneno, although I only made some small progress last week. First I stripped the bonnet for the second time
_DSC5157_20210531_mbk.jpg.da8993252fc62d9a62b0f3bc427b9f37.jpg

The seats could be completed
_DSC5158_20210531_mbk.jpg.7435f7d464091367fe9206e851face45.jpg

and the pads for the center console got their carbon / fibre.
_DSC5152_20210531_mbk.jpg.5d6fe3e09e62dc7d763b4c0839579654.jpg

That's it already for this week's progress. I hope that there will be more to show next week :)

This is looking great. That carbon fibre work looks really good. I find this so difficult to get right.
please don’t give up on this one Urs. Would love to see more if you continue.

Thank you for your kind comment. I really appreciate it and it keeps me moving forward with this build.

As mentioned in my last update, this time I have more to show you :)

First I primered the bonnet for a third (and hopefully last) time and painted the fin with Volkswagen Cosmiggelb. It was definitely a good thing to strip the paint and reapply some filler. The small imperfection on top of the fin has completely disappeared now. At least on this side. On the opposite side it is still slightly visible but much better than before.

At the beginning of this week I attached the seatbelts and completed the interior. Once that was done, it was time to bring it together with the undercarriage

Today the two doors, the rear view mirrors, the horizontal parts of the spoiler and the rim rings got some clear coat. While I am happy with the outcome of the mirrors and the rim rings, I will still have some dust to sand out at the larger parts. Hopefully I won't burn through the clear.

glad you never gave up on it, cause it looks great! those rim rings are strange, never seem them before, shame about the decals rising on the wheel rubber, I guess its's hit and miss trying to get good adhesion onto rubber, i've always have some issues...

Thank you :) Sometimes if I really get frustrated by a kit I think of giving up but in the end my ambition won't let me give up until it's either finished or definitely unsavable.

After almost eight months of building I'm slowly entering the home stretch :)

First the wheels have been mounted
_DSC5221_20210626_mbk.jpg.2a2dc67f4e9f7f6109e13b2148d8dfc5.jpg

the doors could be finished
_DSC5225_20210626_mbk.jpg.fe008c592a4ee1ce5ed11a9ebf163899.jpg

and finally the bonnet got it's final coats of color. Afterwards I finally could clearcoat the whole body
_DSC5222_20210626_mbk.jpg.70e78090f8a313ee52f485e1679365ff.jpg

Now only a few small parts have to be added then it will be finished. It sure will be eye-catching but not the gem I hoped when I started this build.

Hi all :)

Welcome to the last update in this WIP. This week I could finally finish the Veneno, although it resisted its completion. When I tried to add the body to the undercarriage, I suddenly heared some crackling noise and noticed that the carbon part on the back was ripped off  and damaged the carbon decalsđŸ˜¡
 _DSC5233_20210703_mbk.jpg.992f368d875b0a07845552967c1d26be.jpg

The problem was that the body should have been placed from behind in order that the two pins on the carbon part could slip horizontally into their respective holes in the undercarriage. Simultaneously in the front the body should be placed almost vertically to the undercarriage.

As the back part already was off I tried to attach the body to the undercarriage without it and had to notice that even that was not possible. On the underside there was a gap between the splitter which was attached to the body and the undercarriage. I just couldn't manage to get it right. Finally I decided to remove the splitter from the body and attach it to the undercarriage. After that it was absolutely no problem to add the body the way it was meant to be. So I first added the back part to the undercarriage, then the splitter and finally the body. As there was quite some tension on these two parts I first glued the back and let the glue cure overnight. The next day I glued the splitter to the body which caused the next damage
_DSC5234_20210703_mbk.jpg.74346d89d7946595385df5e12a785e76.jpg

But as I only wanted to get rid of this PITA I didn't care too much about that. Luckily the two damaged spots are both on the same side of the car, so they can easily be hidden when I place the car in the cupboard. Finally two pics of the final car which unfortunately didn't turn out the way I wanted it in the beginning. I don't think Tony Stark was pleased by this build... :(

You did a great job ! I finished mine about 2 months ago. I think I put over 200 decals on it with a matte finish. In the end it didn't  feel very rewarding for the time spent.

Thanks Tim. That's exactly how i feel now. I had it sit on my bench for more than half a year and spent 100 hours (I wonder what for?) and nevertheless I'm only happy to have it finished, but I'm not satisfied with the result at all.
