Revell 66 Suburban Ambulance

Recommended Posts

Being retired now is awesome ,I can actually start something and finish it. Waiting for paint to cure on another project I dug out the Revell 66 Suburban and will convert it into an ambulance using the "Three Inches Under" high roof conversion. Revell made this pretty easy by leaving the roof skin off the kit. This one will take some time and it will not be a replica of any actual department. The resin piece has a few pinholes and thin in one area, it needs some clean up to fit snug and once its on , the body and roof will need some lines smoothed so it looks like it belongs. It also has some driver overhead detail .None of these issues would be something thats a deal breaker.

Got the interior rear floor area how I need it to be and did a quick mock up and on this time I'm going to build a simple gurney using the Johan Ambulance gurney as a guide, I cut out the size it will be and have it on the floor for fit. Built the partition and found some other goodies that will work.

The rear area with gurney mocked up and ready for primer / paint. For the gurney I chose to try my hand at making my own so first I borrowed the main part of the Johan ambulance gurney and made a clay mold. I had bought a few bottles of amazing resin "A" and "B" and made the main bed. Mounted that on some evergreen plastic, made the pillow from epoxy. Tires are evergreen plastic cut with a paper punch and glued 3 to make 1 tire. The main side rails are made from ,if I remember right , roof rails from 55 Chevy wagon .Found a few more items for effect in the back.

With the gurney completed,  I started painting the rest of the business area . Alot if detail painting left to go and need to foil the floor strips. I really like the seat pattern and the seat /dash decals Revell put in this kit and I added that seat pattern to the rear jump seat. This kit has mega possibilities for other builds.

Body color I decided on Chicago Fire Dept. I bought some decals for Chicago Fire, not period correct but either is a 66 Chevy Suburban. Its about 70% done and the only thing left to go wrong would be all that glass, and that should be good🤞

where did you get those decals from?

On ebay. Seller has many choices, I will be trying them out soon. I know they do not have any white backgrounds its all on clear paper.

I never thought much about figures ,although a driver would have been nice, the white outfit would stand out for sure. Plus there is plenty of room. The resin place I bought the roof from does cast people for the gurney.
