1/25 Revell 1990 Ford Thunderbird Super Coupe

Good evening friends.

Time to start new build.

We take out the already opened rare boxes from the stash.

10th generation T-Bird, aka Thunderbird. Slightly modified, modernized for the needs of the very beginning of the 90s, similar to the 1987 I just finished.

IMG_5826.JPG.a73f5d77f3b722fea75d2bd322d4faf6.JPG

The box is exactly the same size as the last one from Monogram. But here the 25th scale already appears. Although, for me, the same thing, it is not clear at all why all these Revellogram games should be produced under different companies, essentially similar whales, possibly cast on the same molds. Anyway. Go ahead.

IMG_5827.JPG.0ed34d4b2bc0f49eb1e1e65b0d420110.JPG

Again we are offered to build a runoff and aero. Again, the stock in this case looks more attractive to me.

A little more information. It's nice, after all, to hold a 1990 whale in your hands.

Manual, almost A3 size in full spread.

By the way, both in terms of filling and addition - 1 in 1, like the monogram had, except that this time they got smarter and started assembling, like all normal people from the engine.

Decals.

Chrome.IMG_5832.JPG.7ec8d34f97fb741ae1a762f5d63d33d9.JPG

The rubber is exactly 1: 1, like the version on the 24th scale from Monogram. I'll have to compare later when I build both. I am sure the size will be the same.

Back lights and stop light from the back of interior.

Here, of course, the guys who make molds of this kit make pissed me off. Reverse (these gills are closer to the license plate) should be in transparent plastic. I don’t know yet what I’ll do about it, but I’ll definitely do something. If laziness doesn't prevail.

Glass.

First sprue.

Here we have a bumpers for the stock.

And aero version.

Body.

IMG_5839.JPG.c89b4419af3012934cfbd83d6eb6ead5.JPG

This time, everything is much more ordinary.

IMG_5840.JPG.f899b822b9ac52ebb398cca299dc5ee6.JPG

In the engine bay, almost everything is again cast with a body.

IMG_5841.JPG.09a69183418888b643f0db9403580f41.JPG

The next sprue.

IMG_5842.JPG.7555e3a1a81960fae084a45e0a812489.JPG

And one more.

IMG_5843.JPG.6d812693251cfd0928cced06a1d098a4.JPG

From all this I can note the steering wheel. It's very good!

Sprue with undercarriage and suspension parts.

IMG_5846.JPG.b634dad3c3cfc7101a03ab32cafdfce5.JPG

And the last big sprue.

IMG_5849.JPG.1fd974cdcc2926db290892ba36ffc54b.JPG

The front seats are very cool.

So are the door cards.

IMG_5851.JPG.a9c78c57d7a122cfc771a577ae94c5fe.JPG

And the dashboard too.

Iterior.

Traditionally started with a favorite - the engine).

I cut everything off the sprues. Where is the chrome needed. By the way, in this particular box the chrome was washed off in a couple of minutes. I love it when it turns out that way, you don't have to wait for hours.

IMG_5858.jpg.8dc9e7606ba362b94b63e345921a7c3f.jpg

This is what we have.

Everything was processed and prepared for priming and subsequent painting work. I drilled holes for wires and hoses where needed.

IMG_5859.jpg.5482bef87aac76c536646538b4e86567.jpg

Of the improvements, I replaced the ignition coil, because what was given in the set is not very similar to it both in size and shape.

On the left - it was, on the right - it was.

And EGR for connecting the exhaust to the carburetor system.

By the way, my beloved wife is actively involved in my modeling life and often offers very good and non-standard artistic options. We discussed with her what color scheme the future T-Bird will be. I said that I want to paint it in white pearl from Tamia, because just pure white, as according to the canon, it is boring for me, but I really like white mother-of-pearl itself, I have long wanted to collect it in this color.

My wife and I thought about the body and came to the conclusion that such a interior would go well with white.

And my wife offered to make a small revision on the body, taking the 35th anniversary edishon paint scheme as a sample.

1990 Ford Thunderbird Super Coupe black - 001.jpg

But adapt it to our wishes.

I figured it out quickly in Photoshop. It looks interesting. And we agreed.

Naturally, I just roughly figured it out, but it will work to understand the image. The thresholds will be in the interior color, but under the 2к clear.

I made one more detail in addition to everything attached to the engine.

I do not know what this detail is called, I will be grateful if you can tell me.

Well, I processed the undercarriage and suspension parts.

In general, so far the impressions of working with this set are twofold. The white plastic itself is soft and pliable, it is easy to work with it, but the amount of flash and displacement infuriates. In the past, the bird from Monogram did not have this.

That's all for now.😎

In spite of the flash, the detailing of the castings is pretty impressive. The interior is especially nice, with the seats and upholstery having a believable variety of textures. ( Revell's newer kits fall down a bit in that respect, having very "flat" engravings for seat detail, '66 Impala was disappointing in that respect )

The chassis of this kit looks VERY promising, and I know you will do this one much justice. Looking forward to the build!

It is called the Ignition Control Unit. Sometimes called the Ignition Module. It controls the Spark(timing, dwell, advance, etc)

It would normally be black, but the one in your picture was replaced with an aftermarket one from a USA based parts chain called NAPA. That is why it is grey.

I worked for a Ford dealer back in the 80's-early 90's and I got to drive one of these that was near new. I can remember smashing the gas pedal and as it sucked me back in the seat all I could see was the long hood rising up and seeing hood and sky, nothing else. FUN CAR!

While the 80's-90's was a dark era for the auto industry as a whole, there were a few good cars that came out of that era. The Thunderbird SC was one of them.

Thanks a lot, bro!

Well, guys, the plastic work is over.

And now about everything in order.

I prepared a dashboard and all attachments. Big plastic things, cast with a steering column, sawed down to nowhere, from the found wire he made what looks more like the original.

IMG_6242.JPG.2b2cee9304154b50a2158836db6d897e.JPG

Further, the body, then of course Revell put a pig on it. The front and rear bumpers were wider than the body itself. I had to get out of the situation with improvised means.

IMG_6248.JPG.30f0efe93e7f259771556b3ff6a10a7c.JPG

Processed and assembled the interior, made door lock spindles.

IMG_6249.JPG.fa7df29edb1c743b09b3cb9d4aa63749.JPG

IMG_6250.JPG.ed9ffd838a966aed668a11d4b3ccb1d1.JPG

Well, everything is assembled.

IMG_6251.JPG.7dedbb5008fa36822284b4c45753ebdc.JPG

Then I remembered that the salon brake light is painted in the interior color.

IMG_6251b.JPG.2213df234ce97dc567fbb59af5084ca3.JPG

I processed more details.

IMG_6252.JPG.7499fbfae70c730ac9de2bbf0f6b6b7c.JPG

I made (I do not know how they are called correctly) things that include seat belts.

IMG_6258.JPG.818ea8a6b5a81bebf343318e5645effe.JPG

The taillight, where the brake lights were molded in red plastic. At first I decided to make holes using the drilling method, but this method, even with the thinnest drill, does not work here. Unfortunately. There is a little beaten right. It's okay, I'm not building a salon car.

IMG_6265.JPG.3ac6a3840469c758596a6018ce934925.JPG

Then I remembered how many grilles are made and decided to do the same.

IMG_6268.JPG.96aae54f173d7af87e5d8694b14f3195.JPG

We just grind from the back.

IMG_6269.JPG.6a8baa8b668e124dec47ea678eaa02f5.JPG

It turns out great.

Well, the feet themselves were made from this wonderful gel, bought in the store for everything for a hobby.

IMG_6270.JPG.1646ae4c0885ada1c21f6222c6e88b3c.JPG

It turns out great.

IMG_6270b.JPG.82234594d774a4c8cc608aed6046b427.JPG

IMG_6270bb.JPG.bbdb4bfb0abfe3b8da682c700219aecf.JPG

By the way, it is much better for this purpose than Microscale Kristal Klear.

Microscale Kristal Klear on the left, gel on the right.

IMG_6270c.JPG.679b704c34f854b2c4e7c073dad43425.JPG

Unlike Klear, it is much more transparent and stronger, almost like resin. I originally took this gel for casting rectangular headlights for my Shelby Chargers.

Further the hood, again Revell is weird.: Facepalm: Well, there is no such hole between the hood and the body. Not.

IMG_6272.JPG.cac25c1304378497475dbafaaa57bc5c.JPG

I glued on a strip of plastic.

IMG_6272b.JPG.4ba229e38b17b38d58a18e30b7f60973.JPG

And processed the last details.

IMG_6273.JPG.36ab77ab3f6f67fee43653fe8edb7d91.JPG

The rear window will be polished because it had huge scratches on it.

Well, I primed everything today. I'm waiting for the ordered paints to come.

IMG_6392.JPG.c000dd04d37fac4b6f8e55b1fff540bf.JPG

Primer from Gunze is the best primer I've tried Evar. I plan to purchase the entire line of colors, because working with him is a pleasure.

That's all for now.
