IH Paystar 5000 4x4

Recommended Posts

I normally don’t start another project until the one I am working on is finished, but while I was waiting on another hood for the Dodge, I started this. It was inspired by an actual truck that sold on the internet. Although it was powered by an IH diesel engine, mine will be 6-71 powered.

Here is the inspiration truck:

Here is what I have so far:

I was thinking the same thing, Jeff!😆

Thanks guys! The tires leak down after about a week.😀

This looks like it's going to be pretty cool.  Where did you get the tires?

Thanks Jim! The tires were made by Kit Form Services but were discontinued. I picked these 2 up in a trade from Jeff “gotnitro”. STS has a limited supply from a limited run in stock right now. They are pretty pricey now that they are discontinued, but it was the only way to get 2 more. The other 2 should be here any day.

Killer truck!

Hmm those terra tires look familiar 🤔

Thanks Jeff. Those do look familiar. The problem is that I used the other 2 on my spreader truck, so I have 2 more coming from STS.

Cool, Love Paystar 5000's! Where did you get the driven front Axle from! Will follow this build!

Thanks! The front axle and transfer case are from Kit Form Services.

Thanks for letting me know, Brian.  There is a Peterbilt 379 (I think) with these tires that services one of the local farms here during harvest time hauling trailers.  I'll see if I can get some pics next time it's around.

Thanks JT!! It is actually the logger kit that was molded in orange. I haven’t decided on a color yet, but orange is on the possibility list.

I have the large single air tank available if you’re interested

I wish that I would have known that a couple of weeks ago.😀 I had already went with the older kit style tanks. They are already plumbed and everything. Thanks though. I will keep that in mind for a future project. While we are on the subject, I heard a rumor that you are working on the old style tilt hood for the Paystar. If true, do you know when it will be available? Also, is there any type of product list to know what you have available?
Thanks!

Brian

Worked on the dash today. All the Ertl kits with this cab use the same dash with the Speedograph and the tachograph. I decided a regular speedometer and tachometer would be better for this build.

Here is a picture of a Paystar dash:

Here is the dash from the kit:

I used a dash out of an old 4300 to modify. Here it is with the new speedometer and tach:

 Brian ,

Who would've thought that you would put a Driptroit in and International ? lol

Love this project . Are you going to widen the front fenders ?

Be Well

  Gator

Thanks Gator! I’m going to trim the fenders like the reference truck, but they won’t be widened. I started to put a 3208 Cat in this one as they were used in these trucks, but the 6-71 is my favorite engine to put in a model.😀

Brian glad to see you back on this build. What did you use for your hinges?

Thanks Dan! I just used brass tube and thin evergreen flat stock similar to the way Terry Hymel used to do. I just cut a few short sections of tube, glue flat stock to them and run music wire through the middle. They aren’t perfect, but they are mostly hid anyway. Okay thought that you might like the color scheme though.😀
