It's been awhile. I haven't been idol. I've been working on upgrading one of my printers to 4k. It's not real simple and takes awhile to do this. Mean while , I told myself in in 2019 that I was going to finish the 1934 La Salle convertible coupe. I made the same goal in 2020. Neither one happened. In 2021, I made the same goal and now am determined it to happen in the first quarter of 2022. Here is where I am as of this date. January 2, 2022.IMG_20220102_152808685_HDR.jpg.d72272428e9c21f775a681fa32d243c0.jpgIMG_20220102_152802357_HDR.jpg.8cd00c614d6030a53e0d04b2e09250aa.jpgIMG_20220102_152825915_HDR.jpg.84ea4571cdc15d1dd77ce0f9baef11fd.jpgIMG_20220102_152837962_HDR.jpg.222ee4bd3ca0df919c07c4f7b1cb48bb.jpgIMG_20220102_152905893.jpg.32f47792c3877e284546b1a14d16d718.jpgIMG_20220102_152921542.jpg.a581bac3d6c459969725f975fb74a8af.jpgIMG_20220102_153010844_HDR.jpg.9bfe91a47c9590a7c16b9f92eb4c7b01.jpgIMG_20220102_152808685_HDR.jpg.4731a8225cf1a79432dd97580cfa13be.jpgIMG_20220102_153112369.jpg.813ee820b065fad89e563be9e3855d81.jpg

If you can imagine. Realize that this is the boot with the spark plug in it in the bottom of it that I used in the wiring. The thickness of the upper wall is less than 1 mm. Above that is the interior window crank. The vent window crank is even smaller.

I want to show you what can be accomplished with the right desk top $370 3d printer today. The following are parts to my 35 La Salle. They are only shown as examples of my project. I will do the necessary finishing touches to make them what I want later. The needed changes are merely cosmetic. First off is the dash.

Next, a hubcap on the fender skirt. This is recessed lettering and chromed with  DecoColor chrome felt tip. The lettering is red acrylic paint. This idea was taken from a real car.

This is the interior door hardware. These were created from pic's of the originals. The window crank, wing vent and door handle.

And lastly. The banjo steering wheel. It's currently not possible to do with current printers, but this should get the job done for now.

Looking very promising. Are you printing the body as well?

I really love following your progress. Your attention to detail and conviction to accuracy are impressive. I really want to see that Dodge project completed, but I understand the need to look away for a while! Good luck!

I made my absolutely last 3d file acquisition this past Sunday. This 59 Olds Super 88 is high on my list of favorite cars of the 50's. I've been watching this file for quite awhile and finally decided to get it. I'm familiar with the designers work as I have 1 or 2 others of his others. I can only find 2 flaws in this file. The side chrome strip is that of the 98 as it is too long and goes past the door. The other is the slight change in the surface of the side panel that sweeps down from the front of the door to the back. The other nice things about it is the detail of the interior, the front control arms, spring and rear end. You could print this car as a curb side.

Doug, that looks to be one super sharp file!

Proportions look good to my eyes as it's got the shorter body (especially the rear quarters) for an 88. I see you've got it in Blender.......I'd love to see the printed result!

Who was the vendor that makes the file? I've might have run across some of their items when I was surfing for a particular car the other day.

Squir Is the vender and also the creater. If you blow up the side view above. you can see the file measurements. The length is right on and the wheel base is about an inch short. I've never see a file that's already in scale. They always were too large. CG Trader has the same file, but for $99 more.

One of the Members here requested a set of Cadillac valve covers. Since I'm creating a 53 Eldorodo, I drew up a set to hopefully accommodate him. I've worked on the water pump sporadically and this is engines present condition.Selection_638.png.a4fddfc6fe4041245cabd971f500f351.png

My present focus has been on the building of the 35 LaSalle. I'm making great progress and will post pic;s soon.

Things are progressing nicely. I'currently working on the intake manifold for the 53 Eldorado. The 35 LaSalle is coming along nicely and should be done sometime this month. I did print out the body of the 58 Ford Sunliner convertible. The length fits perfect with the AMT 57 Fairlane 500 body. This leads me ti believe That I could make a trans kit for it. I'm going to show you what it looks like as well as a Cults printable body which is one of the reasons you need to be careful about Cults files. Here is the Hum3D file printed out. Note how it prints in fine detail.

And then the Cults file which is a poor rendition of a printable file. Some pics are comparisons to my printed car.

I purchased the new Phrozen 8k printer which I should have in late August. To give you an example' the xy um for the 4k printer I currently use is 50. the xy um for the new 8k printer is 28 um. That's almost a 50 % improvement. Take a look at these prints off a new Phrozen  8k I just purchased. Simply amazing. No more lines in the print.

One thing Cults does when they get the files from other sources.....the creators who sell on Cults combine everything into one big fat file, which is why they're selling them with all the bumpers, taillights, up-tops, etc all attached.

I've gotten a file that I believe was originally on Cults (Maserati Ghibli) and I found out that I'm able to use Blender and "un-attach" all the parts that were originally given as all one combined mesh. It's more work, but it's just as much work to try and paint or more tedious........separate those bumpers and lights for plating and such.

That '58 Ford looks REALLY good! Hum3D's files can be expensive, but you can literally print an entire car with all its innards save for the engine and detailed chassis.

I do believe from here on out, I'm probably going to just spend the money and buy the more expensive files, and I can either print them with opening doors, trunk and hood, or modify it as such so that all the opening panels are closed like on your Ford, and still have separate bumpers, taillights and headlights.

I should add that another thing I notice when files are created from other original sources, they tend to REALLY beef up the A and C pillars on the cars. I get why they do that to make them more stable for printing, but WOW......that really takes away a lot of the detail that otherwise can be seen.

Using the Maserati again as an example, I was able to take the windshield trim off the car and did that ever make a BIG difference in the profile of the roofline. MUCH better looking and not as heavy handed compared to what was done previously.

I'm eventually going to print that one again, but this time with changes that will make it much more appealing, and not so heavy handed looking.

Progress on the Caddy engine. Water pump housing is done. Center exhaust pots for heads is done. The correct Hydra-Matic Trans is well underway. The oil pan needs to be corrected.

I found three 56 car files that I've purchased and modified for 3d printing. There just isn't any files available for these, but I got lucky and found a gaming file producer that had them. Their pricey and need some modification. He's also creating a 55 Plymouth Belvedere convertible for me. The Caddy 331 engine and thans are almost finished. The 56 Continental is ready for print and the 58 Ford Sunliner convertible is almost printable. The new printer should be here by the end of August. Here's the three 56"s.

Pontiac Star Chief Catalina Sports Coupe -the front bumpers need scaling down.Selection_923.png.c190dcb73b36e52ceb6b714d2177c003.pngSelection_924.png.01f651abc8446f343ee9627cc48b0930.png

Mercury Montclair. - I had to flatten the small grill.

Dodge Custom Royal Lancer-can't find anything wrong. I will probably combine this front end onto the rear of the 55 and make the few changes..

Those files look REALLY good Doug! A while back, I stumbled across a '56 Pontiac Safari, I don't remember where I got it though.........possibly from Sketchfab? Here it is, and some of the parts files were all over the map as far as scale.......it took some time to size everything up nice and even. It's not bad at all, but some of it will need some smoothing out before I try and get it printable.

I've had that Safari for at least a couple years. It's just not a good file. These files are done by Dan Palatnik. There $150 each. Go to his Facebook page and check it out. There"s 56 Buick Roadmaster 2dr hardtop. He's doing the 55 Plymouth for the same $150. His files are all high poly count.

I could spend HOURS looking over his artwork! So.............are each of his items he created, can they be had as .obj files? I see some real nice gems on there I'd like to have including this one.........

278158354_5308171535900225_6296261670207937680_n.jpg.7295652d15fae9e12ad28c4ebf2b1be0.jpg278177305_5308171522566893_4659176774508259455_n.jpg.fa8858f7e11cea97fa662f0b096014ef.jpg

He may be a bit pricey, but from what I've seen, they're worth every penny!

As far as the '56 Safari, I could whip the body on that into shape.....it's just not high on my list at the moment. I may run across a nicer file though, but for the time being that'll do.

Yes, they come in obj format. But, as I previously sated above, they are gaming files and very difficult to take apart. There is no separation of parts like your used to. It's totally different and takes me days to do. The 56 Mercury took 6 days at 3-5 or more hours a day to do. Then you have to know how to properly fill holes that you create in the process. The parts that are made separately don't always line up. You have to alter them to work. On and on. There a lot of work.

I've admired Dan Palatnik's work for at least the last 10 years! I wondered if maybe some of those files would end up getting 3D printed....he's done so many cars now, and their proportions are generally pretty spot-on, moreso than a great many (most?) 3D models out there on the web.

The Cad engine is looking good! I just spent ages making an Olds Rocket V8 and I think it's put me off modeling engines for ever (lol). I salute your patience.

I've been working on the 56 Dodge and have all but the windshield ready for a test print. Of coarse it's a Coronet Royal Lancer Convertible. I've included the files from my 551120696973_Workspace1_943.png.3066fd2a31e3347bd50f68a6f54e54e3.png545492734_Workspace1_944.png.e4794cd85961ea234a29cce1e189e265.png926889674_Workspace1_945.png.c07b8a2898d7a975078d28aa0d4752bc.png Dodge in the pics, but they will need some adjusting to fit this body.
