Beans Posted July 13, 2021 Author Share Posted July 13, 2021 Managed to disect the rear bumper/tailight trim/trunk and body trim piece. Once I got over the, "I can save the chrome if I do this super carefullly" idea, it wen well. Only one bomb drop where I used a little too much pressure and cut into the tail light trim. Only some minor cleanup and repairs to do.... ***Lesson Learned: Do not simply rely on a reference photo and indents on the molded part to determine where to cut. Test fitting and marking is the way to go. Hence the double bomb drop where I cut the trim in the wrong place, leaving too much on the body section and not enough on the trunk lid. Looks like I'll have to make adjustments.. Also a good note for future builders of this kit. The pre-cast lines in the rear trim are not correct for the actual trunk edges. Nothing some scribing and filling won't fix but in you are into that level of detail, it is an issue. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It always helps to look at a refernce picture that is actually relevant to the specific model before hacking away with a blade. But hey, it gives me a chance to learn new skills. Beans Posted July 23, 2021 Author Share Posted July 23, 2021 The road so far..... I have a long standing curse in my life when it comes to alternators. Both in 1:1 and model cars. This kit comes with a decent one that actually has a molded on bracket to connect to the engine block. At least that is how I remember it when I saw it last...... Try as I might I couldn't find it. I looked everywhere. It is gone. Next went to the parts box (mostly ford stuff). Out of four complete engine sets, not one alternator..... I am impatient and knew that trying to get one would slow me down. So I made one. Made the bracket as well. Didn't turn out too bad and is at least as detailed as most kit alternators. Now to clean up the distributor cap & plug wires. Which is where I was headed when the alternator issue came up. I have not yet mastered a process for the distributors so we will see how that goes. Luckily I bought some about 10 years ago and hadn't used it. Now that I look at the picture I see a couple spots that need to be cleaned up a little but overall the process went pretty smoothly. Also managed to get the cooler (see previous posts) pretty much done. Again looking at the picture shows me a couple places I want to do some minor cleanup, but for something that will sit in the back seat it will work. Simply opening the trunk turned into a bunch of unforeseen things I needed to change. From the interior trunk frame and trunk lid inner molding, to the rear chrome trim, to the regular fitting issues with this kit, and converting the transmission to the automatic then having it all fit so the hood closes. That along with more scratch building than I have ever done before and will think twice about in the future makes this a challenging but fun build overall. Overall this was a really fun build. The kit itself was really good in my opinion. A couple of fit issues but nothing that derailed the project.
