doorsovdoon
I heard this kit suffers from horrendous fit issues and requires a ton of work to even make it look half good.... so on that note I went ahead and bought one! I'm going with turquoise blue metallic with white vinyl roof and white interior. I've always liked the look of these cars with Magnum 500 wheels but this kit doesn't come with them, so I'll be using a set from my spares tin. On opening the box I could see straight away how much millage they've got out of this mould over the years. I've spent the best part of three days shaving, cutting, trimming, and even adding some filler to get the bumpers and grill to fit the body, even the body needed work, otherwise I'd have no grill or bumpers left to trim! I honestly thought the rear bumper was a mistake and not for this kit, xD! Anyway, bad kits don't really bother me and I enjoyed fixing these crazy fit issues, certainly the worst I've worked with so far. If you don't like fit issues I recommend you stay well away from this one, Lol! Edited July 2, 2021 by doorsovdoon

Snake45
I bought one of these a couple years ago and it promptly "disappeared" until a couple weeks ago. Opened to box to discover it should honestly be called "A Box of Plastic Flash with Some Random Stuff That Looks Something Like a Charger." Definitely not worth my time/effort to make an "A-grade" build out of it, but I do want to Snake-slap it together in some way. Unfortunately I already have a flat black primer '69 Charger diecast so that's out. Right now the plan is to slap some of this generic Rustoleum Charcoal Gray Metallic on it as a '70s street cruiser. Good luck with yours!

Between the time that R2 brought out the General Lee Snap Kit and Warner Brothers stopped licensing DoH products, I often said that if you wanted to build a General Lee, go with the snapper or or get/make the parts to make the Revell Charger a General Lee, both are far better options at this point. I believe that the newly-tooled , now-former D.O.H. snapper kit is now under the Coca ~ Cola banner . It certainly IS superior to that ancient glue version . NOBLNG
I have one of these too, but am in no hurry to build it. Based on the reports here, I think I’ll wait until my eyesight and dexterity deteriorate substantially. I’ll be watching your build though.👍
TimJ
I built the General Lee version a few years ago so I know all about the fit issues. It turned out OK in the end though. I look forward to seeing how you get on with it.
slusher
I built mine in 96 and mine came out ok and I have the newer body that is a real charge body not opened. I look forward too Garett’s build of this kit…
Oldcarfan27
Sounds like it would be easier to make it into a General AFTER a jump!!! 😃

doorsovdoon
Lol. c'mon guys, where's the love for this old MPC kit? xD it is pretty bad though. I've decided to go to town on this kit now, so I added some detail like the filler pieces on the rear wings and added panel lines to separate the front wings from the rocker panels. I have electric window switches in my spares tin for the interior and I might make a pistol grip shift from one of the many many guns that came with the MPC Squad Rod! There are no RT decals in this kit and no scripts on the body, so, I thought why not put the slant six in there from my '64 Belvedere?! It drops straight in and fits nicely, the only mod needed is to cut off one of the exhausts from the axle. The vinyl roof is done, and I got some detailing done on the dashboard and firewall. I might even wire the engine and add hoses and such, might as well now with the amount of work it took getting it to this point! 1972coronet
225-powered Chargers are rare and unusual ; I've seen only three in person , and a couple on the 'net . You're a plastique surgeon , par excellence !
Captain Spaulding
The Charger is looking really good so far.
David G.
Gotta hand it to ya Gareth, you are bringing out the best it has to give. I like the dashboard and chassis detail. The slant six is great. David G.
doorsovdoon
Thanks guys. Got some more done today. Engine bay detailing is mostly finished. Made a pistol grip shift from a riffle I had in the spares tin, made some arm rests up for the doors and put electric window switches in there, I think the switches are from the '57 Fairlane. I've wired up the slant six distributor including one for the coil, and even added some wires for the alternator. I'll add heater hoses too when I get the engine in, Lol! espo
I like how you have beet this kit into submission. The 6 cylinder and a floor shift would have made an unusual 1:1 but you get to build it anyway you want. I like the colors for the body as well. Snake45
You're putting FAR more skill and effort into this kit than it deserves (IMHO, of course), but there's no denying you're wrestling it to the ground and making it your Joy Behar. You are inspiring me to dig mine out and slap it together, which is about as high a compliment as I can pay. Drive on!

I have one of the glow in the dark kits I was going to build with the ‘70 Coronet kit, which I also have, for the chassis and drivetrain donor. Just don’t know what I can do to make it look better. Monty
I hope you won't mind me saying so, but I think you should find a better set of wheels for this build. Judging by the curvature of the spokes, these appear to be Buick wheels. Here are some authentic Mopar wheels on a Challenger Notice how the spokes "crown" toward the center of the wheel? They shouldn't be too hard to find, especially among this bunch of builders.

doorsovdoon
Found some wheels that look close to what Monty suggested but they needed a lot of work. They were too wide and pushed the wheel hubs out, so I sanded the back of them flat, also, the rims covered too much of the tyre so I had to carefully sand them down without creating flat spots! Thanks to Monty pointing out the wrong wheels I was going to use, these look a little better, even though I spent more time than I should have on them, Lol! While digging through the spares I found some whitewalls, I don't know if I'll use them, I'll see which I prefer when I finish the car. The interior is finished and the engine bay is packed! I still have a steering box to put in there! Edited July 5, 2021 by doorsovdoon

Chuck Most
Personally I think this car is crying out for a set of full wheel covers (mostly thanks to the padded top and the presence of a Slant Six) but the Mag 500s always look good on these.
