MPC 1/16 1979 Firebird

Hello all,

I have just moved into my new place, and I actually have a workshop of my own. Needs doing up, but I instantly got started on something I have been waiting for for a while.

Got this kit from a most gracious guy on E-bay who included some cement in the purchase. Really nice guy!

While my stuff is still in transit, and I can't get to any supply shops due to quarantine, I did some sanding on the mould lines. Can't really do much else at this point, but it is a start.

Also if you are interested, I have some Star Trek models on the side, check out my AST forum profile if you want to see that.

Oh wow, those turned out pretty nicely! I checked out one of your builds, inspired me a little to be honest. I was feeling pretty bored with it but have some ideas now.

Thanks!

Thank you for the kind words!  Just have some fun with it.

I’ll be following along with your build as well.  The thing I learned from this kit is to test fit everything!  I must have somehow gotten the engine in mine too far back. The shaker didn’t line up with the hole I. The hood and the radiator hoses were too short.

I don't think it was just you, the skaker is in an odd place when I tested it on mine too. I think the hole might actually be too far forwards?

Looking Good Declan. I really should tackle that kit but just no room for arge scale kits.  Keep up the good work and do that T/A proud😉

Thank you, I will try.

I got this one off ebay, they seem pretty easy to find. As for space.. hahahha well... who has room

Nice, will be following! Have a 1/16 build slumbering in the storage as well.. seems like the 1/16 kits really are lacking in allot. Even though they have a lot of detailing potential since they are so big! Might wait to build my project until I have a good 3D printer. 🙂 it’s the Baja Fever Chevy btw, have gathered an better engine for it but k”leaning towards buying a 1/16 charger to rob the front and rear suspension since I want to build some thing like the Roadkill Muscle truck and not the 4wd as the kit is.

Your build is looking great so far! What color are you planning?

I ended up with the 1/16 Tans Am and the 1/16 Charger new in the boxes when I bought a bunch of kits from a guy off of FB Marketplace. Really have no interest in either one and tried to sell them pretty cheap a while back but had no takers. I'll have to keep an eye on your build just in case I end up having to keep them.

Thank you,

The 1/16 scale seems a little dissapointing because, yes they have the potential for detail but sorely lacks it. I would like to see your build though, whenever that happens. Wish I had a 3d printer for these sorts of things too.

Thank you!

I am planning on doing it silver with the blue firebird like the anniversary edition.

1979 PONTIAC FIREBIRD TRANS AM

I got pretty excited about the 1/16 scale but was instantly disinterested as soon as I started, so I understand wanting to sell them. (If you are still trying to sell the charger.... pm me? 😉)

Declan,

Silver with blue chicken would be a great combo.

PM sent.

It's meant to be a chicken???

I always saw it as the Romulan Bird of Prey symbol from star trek... Now I want to do a firebird with that logo instead of the firebird logo... Thanks for the idea 😆

Silver and blue is going to be killer!  If you need any parts or decals, just let me know

Thank you, I may request some..... distributor and wires would be good if you have any. 😁

Today I started the interior properly. Hardly close to finished, but I have made some ok work. The colors are Granite and Dove grey. I drilled the holes for the steering wheel, I thought the moulded "holes" were stupid looking. I also started wiring, but I may need to restart that with a new distributor and some REAL model wiring... whoops. I like the placement of the colors, I think the darker carpet looks nice. The engine is some random blue paint I found which turns out to be a clear but it went over a black base with a few coats. It looks good to me.

Tamiya Honda NSX I just finished, picture is pretty bad but I am happy with it.

JUST A NOTE: All my non body parts (which are spray painted) are BRUSH painted. My airbrush only works once in a blue moon after I sing hallelujah backwards while sweeping the ceiling with a toothbrush. It is not finished, so yes it is a bit rough.

Thanks to all the kind words, you all help inspire me to continue with this dreadful kit.

TO THE PICTURES
