Hi JC!

You are right, but, the engine in the kit is the V6. The Merkur XR4Ti, née Sierra, was a 2.3 L4 turbo, just like in the TBird Turbo coupe and a special edition Mustang, that was sold only for 2 years if I remember correctly.

Great to see this one, and like Les I'm also interested to see what road car options might become available. The Sierra and Sapphire were hugely significant cars here, I think they topped the sales charts for much of the 1980s and almost everyone will have a memory of them. My mum and stepdad had a 5-door XR4x4 which I drove a few times, a different beast to the Cosworth but I liked it.

A couple of tidy Cosworths I've seen:

1989 Ford Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth

1993 Ford SIerra Sapphire Cosworth

If it could be converted to non-Cosworth spec then even more options become available:

1989 Ford Sierra Sapphire 1.6 L Police Car F364 TDF (1990)

1987 Ford Sierra Sapphire Limousine E889 TOK (C&S 10/89)

I could even recreate my grandad's Sapphire:

Sierra Sapphire at Bicknacre, 1991?

Would be great if a 5-door bodyshell was offered, or even an estate!

I don't want to be that guy...BUT...unless you can get the entirety of the UK to pre-pay for a road going version of this kit, then it's not something that's going to happen.  Belkits, Beemax/NuNu, etc are selling kits to race car modelers, who aren't afraid to open their wallets for this stuff (this kit and Belkits stuff is over $60US at this point), and who will more than likely buy both versions, and then a few extra to make with aftermarket liveries.  I mean it's an interesting car, looks like what a 1st Gen U.S. Taurus could have looked like if anyone cared, but until someone can prove the working theory wrong - there's just not enough sales in the street versions of these cars to justify the expense, particularly to a nearly singular market.

From my knowledge the licensing works differently between race cars vs. street cars. For race cars, model manufacturers need to get the license from main sponsor whereas for street cars they need to get  (presumably much more expensive) licensing from the actual carmaker. That's probably why smaller companies like NuNu or Belkits cannot produce street version of their models.

Interesting, I'd have thought it was more complicated to get a racing car licensed as there'd be the sponsors and the original manufacturer?

Also, I suppose racing cars sell better and they can spin-off numerous versions to collectors with just a different decal set.
