AMT 1966 Buick Wildcat

Recommended Posts

2006 reissue of the 1/25 scale 1966 Buick Wildcat painted in Tamiya TS-39 Mica Red and cleared in Testors Wet Look Clear. Used embossing powder for the carpets and brushed Pledge Revive It on the seats. There was a good deal of orange peel in the clear which required over two hours of wet sanding. I managed to remove the majority of it with just a slight burn through on the top of front fender that's only noticeable from  a certain angle. A simple kit with a not so simple finishing process....lol.

Great job on this one! Paint looks super! A fellow member of the local car club had a 1:1 exactly like this. It grabbed a lot of attention at the cruise-ins.

Thanks Keith, I think the '66 Wildcat is a truly beautiful automobile.

Boy oh boy is that beautiful 👍

Great colors both inside and out, and your foil work is gorgeous.

I have this kit in my stash, and when I get to it, it will look just like yours.

Very nice work !!!

Thank you David, I have a preference for white interiors since they seem to provide a nice contrast.

I have a couple more of these kits to build and definitely looking forward to building them.

Very nice.  I seem to get quite a bit of orange peel with Tamiya's clears also.

Thanks David and I've experienced a similar situation with Tamiya clears at times. They do however seem to hold up better to wet sanding and polishing than Testors clears.

Way to bring that old Buick to life!  Great shade of red complemented by flawless foil(?) work.

Any engine shots?

Thanks Monty, it is foil and my work in that respect is getting better with room to improve.

No engine shots simply because it's just a basic build in that respect. I'm looking to head in the direction of engine compartment detailing with future builds. Particularly with these older promo style kits.

Thanks Rich, and yeah I'd "Rather Have A Buick" like the "66 Wildcat.

This maybe a basic kit but with a great looking paint job and all the trim cleanly done it looks great.

Thanks David, it definitely required a lot foil and patience.

Good looking Buick.  That red and white combo looks killer.

Thanks Bob, the color reminded me of Flame or Regal Red from that year.

Gorgeous clean meticulous build! A fitting tribute to GM's (Bill Mitchell's) best styling years.  I also love your super sharp outdoor photography and the rock backgrounds which really complement the car's colors.  Thanks for posting!

Thanks John, of all the great Bill Mitchell designs, the Riviera is my favorite.

Thank you David, I'm still developing my painting skills so I have to be persistent at times with the finishing process.
