"Shut Down"
An Accurate Version of the Beach Boy's song

It happened on the strip where the road is wide**
Two cool shorts* standing side-by-side**
Yeah, a fuel-injected Stingray and my 413,
We're revvin up our engines and it sounds real mean

1962 Dodge 413

Tach it up, tach it up, buddy gonna shut you down...
Tach it up, tach it up, buddy gonna shut you down...

Declining numbers at an even rate
At the count of one we both accelerate
The Stingray is light, his slicks are startin to spin,
But my 413s really diggin in

Gonna make tracks now, button-shift, here we go...

My Super Stock Dodge is crankin out in low, but
The fuel-injected Stingrays motors startin to blow
To get the traction, hes ridin the clutch,
His pressure plates burning, man that smokes too much!

Pedal to the floor, hear my dual quads drink
and watch my 413s taillights startin to shrink
Hes got a Chebby engine so its understood
Hes got a crank and rods and pistons shootin out of his hood

Shove-a-lot, Shove-a-lot, Mopar muscle shut you down,
Shove-a-lot, Shove-a-lot, Mopar muscle shut you down,
Shove-a-lot, Shove-a-lot, Mopar muscle shut you down.

I remember a neighbor back in that time with a white two door base sedan with the 413 and a Torque flight. He had to have it pointed dead straight when he dropped the hammer otherwise he was having to steer sideways to stay in a straight line even with the Casler cheater slicks of the time.  The F.I. Corvette was no slouch especially on a road course, but in a straight line it was going to be the "Little old lady from Pasadena" all the way.

^^^ There were alternate lyrics to that one as well. Way back in 1984, the song's co-writer Dr. Don Altfeld came into my print shop (on Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena!) to get some publicity material printed. He was trying to sell Ford on the idea of using it for commercials, and told me he'd rewritten it thusly:

"But there in her garage where the kids all hang

Is a brand new shiny red Ford Mustang"

I recall the local paper had some mention of the idea, but that's about as far as it got.
