NOBLNG Posted November 18, 2021 Author Share Posted November 18, 2021 Well I’m back on track with this one. The tailgate chains I had mocked up previously. The paint on the box and fenders is good enough for me now. I got the accent done in the wheels using my glue looper. I had better luck actually with thinned semi gloss acrylic than the panel line accent. I couldn’t find the pedals so I had to make some. One thing I noticed with this kit is that the location for the door and window cranks are too close together and not mirror images, left and right. 🤨 I also got the wooden bed planks painted. How in the heck did you get the paint lines for the green and brown in the bed to look so good with no over lap??? Man that looks great. I taped the wooden planks with Tamiya tape and trimmed it with a hobby knife. The green slats were sprayed along with the rest of the box. The wood grain is just a coat of Tamiya XF-59 desert yellow with some XF-72 brown dry brushed on top. The chains are from Michaels. The plastic chains on most truck kits are a pet peeve of mine. I couldn’t find the tail light/licence plate brackets anywhere in this flea market special, so I made my own. The tail lights were there, but I didn’t like the over-sized buckets, so I glued them into a short piece of styrene tube and filled the backside with CA. Then just mounted them on a chunk of .032” brass rod. I couldn’t mount the plate (which is a tad smaller than 1/25th) where they show it without it sticking way outboard of the fenders, so I tucked it in a bit on a separate mount. I remember having trouble mounting the headlights on my ‘36 Ford coupe, so I pinned these on a .020” brass pin. Wheels, hubcaps and bumpers are all in place also. NOBLNG Posted November 20, 2021 Author Share Posted November 20, 2021 (edited) I was about to mount the tailgate chains permanently when I discovered a better method. I had planned to use a shortened straight pin to connect the chains to the truck. But I have some .011” beading wire that I can loop through the chain and twist it to make an “eye bolt” of sorts. There's a great story in the Nov/Dec 2021 issue of Vintage Truck magazine on a 1937 Ford pickup from the Early Ford V-8 Foundation in Auburn, IN. (FordV8Foundation.org) It's the small 60hp V-8 version, also in two tone green and black, and there are quite a few great reference photos for anyone wanting to build a stock '37.
