The difference is that sprue or runner most will know what is being talked about. So if I said throttle body instead of carburetor most would know what I'm talking about, engine part thing is too vague.

One suggestion is to get some cheap craft paint for spraying. You can get your technique dialed in for using an airbrush without wasting money.  You can also get a feel for thinning paints. Also by using waterbased craft paints you it will allow for quick cleanup. Ultimately you will need to do some final b testing with the actual paint you will be using.
