AMT 1977 Ford Pinto

This is probably my most modified build to date. Too many to list here without writing a book so I'll include a link to my WIP. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/166157-1977-ford-pinto-by-amt/

This is a very basic promo style kit that looks to be very badly facelifted from the original annual. I can't recommend this kit unless you like scratch building and fixing issues. Don't expect this kit to look like this out of the box, it took a lot of work to get it looking like this, but if you like this type of model building, the AMT Pinto is well worth a go. It was loads of fun, especially getting the hatch to work! I was torn between the stock and custom look. I'm more of a factory stock guy, but the custom parts made the Pinto look so darn cool! so the last couple of pictures are for the weekend warriors, Lol.

Thanks guys. When I was choosing a colour I went looking for the most garish 70's colours there were, it came close to orange with a brown Starsky & Hutch stripe! but then I remembered a car my neighbour had in the 80's, a Morris Marina Coupé in Applejack Green, a car that kind of looks very much like the Pinto actually.

Let's just say that this kit is not AMT's finest hour. I wish they would have left the original alone I d the 72 front end better. But that's just me. You did a far better job that I did. I built it and put it right back in the box where it will stay. The colors fit it so perfectly. In a nutshell, a beautiful ugly car.😃

Cheers Mario. I too prefer the 72-76, the moulding looked good from the builds I've seen. AMT looked to have rushed the redesign of the kit which really shows on the front end.

Fantastic well built Pinto. Enjoyed the build and how you handled all the problems..

Thanks mate. Like the MPC Charger, I enjoy these problematic kits and fixing their issues. I've read the '73 Mustang is a bit of a pain to build, I'll have to give that one a go next.
