Looking great. Your choice for new knockoffs looks good too.

Thanks for posting this, as I wasn't actually even aware a kit of this car with a non-blobular chassis had ever been done.

Thanks, Bill man! The 'spinners' are from the Monogram '53 Chevy lowrider...... As far as the kit, it's right up there with the '60 Starliner as far as details go. My example has/had a lot of flash, tho......

Well, guys.... I can't seem to find any gold paint anywhere! If I'm still gonna do a panel paint job on this, it will have to be with these two colors. The bronze is what I used on the 5 window I recently finished, the brown is the Cordova brown I showed earlier. I put down the bronze first.......

What do you guys think? I'm on the fence now about even doing the panel job, I may just paint it solid brown.

THAT is a nice car...... I'm guessing it has the 390 engine?

Most likely I'll be using the custom tail lights for this build...... If I was to use the factory ones, I would get some silver acrylic craft paint. They rinse cleanly until dry, so any mistakes could be cleaned with water....

Thank you...Yes it does have the 390

I have just a quick question regarding detailing the chassis..... The front and rear subframes, were they painted with the floor pan, or were they painted black then installed? You can see the subframe in the rear, some structural braces around the transmission tunnel, and the front subframe that ties into the bottom of the firewall area.....

Not sure of the colors unless I look under my car. But that front subframe is bolted to the fire wall if I recall correctly

I did finally find some underside pics of an over restored one online, the front subframe was body color. There's an engine cradle that's black along with the suspension.......

I just ordered some gold paint for this! Should be here by week's end. Finally found some on Amazon.....

What's Watson style?

You've heard of Larry Watson, I'm sure.... He pretty much started the "panel" paint job trend.....

Here's the engine for this. Also, I've fitted the built interior into the body......

Now I can move on to the suspension, and start painting this thing!

Thanks for looking in, guys....... comment freely.

I've made a bit more progress! We had very nice weather today, so I was able to get this thing in the brown paint. I sprayed one coat of gold, three coats of brown, and two coats of clear, all today.

These two pics are outside.......

I've also got the fiddly suspension done, it's up on it's wheels now......

I've got to wait a few days before I can polish it........ In that time I can decide if I really want to attempt a panel paint job. I had such a good day as far as painting goes, and I don't want to tempt fate and screw something up.....

That's what I have for now! Please comment freely.......

Sweet color!

Thank you, Carl! It looks a little better in person, kind of a chestnut color.....

Is the intake manifold from the '60 Starliner kit????....

This kit has the option to build it with a three-deuce setup or a single four.....

Love the depth of that gold/brown combo, and it has a really nice gloss too. Direct sun really sets it off!!

I know what you mean about tempting fate. I forgot to put on the inside rearview mirror, and if I tried fitting it now, I guarantee I'd smear glue all over the inside of the windshield!

I've been working on the foil for this...... I wanted to show you guys a tip on doing long straight pieces of the trim. What I do is cut the foil on the paper the width of the trim with a straight edge. You want it a little long so you can handle the ends.... Then apply to the body. There's no way I could cut such a straight line on the body! I never had luck trimming on the body, so I had to adapt.

Looking great! Did you use your technique for both the top trim and the side trim? I've got to try that. Are two blades taped together to generate the width of the strip, or do you simply move the straight edge over a mm or whatever?

I found that even with a sharp blade I got tiny tears in the foil, so i had to re-do certain sections.

Thank you Douglas! Yea, all I've done so far has been cut on the sheet. I use a single blade and just move the ruler over as wide as the trim is....

Something funny? We've both had T Bird projects going, and you said you've an Impala to do..... I also will be building an Impala next! A '67.......

Well, it's obvious we both have excellent taste! USPS is so slow...Impala is still in the mail, so I got the Studebaker locally.

Thanks for the explanation. I didn't have the courage to do the super-fine trim on the sides with foil.

TJ, the way your doing your foil is the way Model CarJr does his basically.  Foil looks good on your Tbird..
